I need hotel advice. The big hotels are incredibly expensive in these cities (eg Marriott Budapest is quoting 250E) and Munich's big hotels seem sold out.

I am not interested in B&Bs, but centrally located hotels near the gay districts (can you also tell me where these are in these cities, except Frankfurt which I know well).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Hotels in Budapest and Berlin

I only know about Berlin and Budapest but here goes. In neither city is there any real gay district, although in Berlin most things are in Mitte, but there's a lot outside that district and a lot in it that's not gay. Anyway, I usually stay in one of the Artotels--go to http://www.artotel.de or a the Bleibtreu http://www.bleibtreu.de they're both reasonable but real hotels and close to the excellent subway system. That's one reason you should worry about location--you'll be taking the subway all the time anyway since things are so spread out. In Budapest, the interesting area is so small that districts per se aren't that important but I'd pick something central. An American expat named Bob who can be reached at http://www.gaytailoredtours.com or http://www.gaybudapest.com can help here too but I stayed at the Gellert which is a grand old place, many trams go buy right outside and the most elegant baths in the city are right in the hotel. I got some sort of bargain, off season rate off the internet but I don't remember what site. Just play around a bit and you'll find it. The other more "chic" hotels do seem to be more expensive there than other cities--maybe it's that they're all completely new. I'd also use Bob for escorts although see other threads for a discussion of that subject and in Berlin you have to see Andreas at wwww.eurostud.de if you can be a bottom at all. He is one of the greatest escorts on the planet in my book. the ultimate in tall dark and handsome (and HUNG, girl you just wait!)

RE: Hotels in Berlin

Thanks Ramir, but I opted for the Crown Plaza which was not far away and advertises in Siegessawe as well as in Spartacus!

But for future reference what is this hotel like??? It is not listed in Spartacus (which I bought at Bruno's new shop). Is it private and OK to bring "guests" over??? Does it have a website?

I loved Berlin and am sorry you were away at the time!!! Next time.

If price is a concern I recommened the Ibis Group (http://www.ibishotel.com) for most of Europe. In the bigger cities there are normally one or two with central location, althrough many are in the suburban areas, good if you go by car.

Prices are normally EUR 55-75 per room. The rooms have always "queen/king-sized" beds, ok shower facilities. It is alittle like Holiday inns in the old days.

For the capitals of Europe I have used HooBoy´s travel site several times with very good results. The "special offers" are recommended and definitely very price competative.

Thanks but the Crown Plaza was very centrally located Nurenburgstrassa, and its cost was E95, plus you earn Priority Club points towards eventual free stays in the Bass chain. I can recommend this hotel which is a rather sad older western styled hotel, but still all the services one would want are there, including the inevitable request for extra towels!!!!
