Well, after years of being a diabetic who was considered healthy,I am now waiting for transplant. If you haven't signed up to be a donor, please give it some thought. Not only are diabetics dependant upon pancreas transplants, but donated organs greatly benefit other groups as well. Everyone is aware of the donated corneas that give the gift of sight.

The last few years have been rough on me, and I realize how fortunate I was for many years as a juvenille onset diabetic. It's harder and harder to control my blood sugar, and the years of insulin injections have ravaged my body, but not my mind nor my spirit.

Anyway, my vision is really bad now, and I appreciated this site, which served a valuable need. However, I doubt I will post much more here, and I hope no one forgets the fight for diabetes research and the eventual cure.

I hope you'll continue posting. Every one of your posts has been informative or given some helpful insight. It would be a loss if you left.

This is a hard time of year anyway, and dealing with health issues is even harder. If you're just getting this news, it may still be sinking in, and your doctor may have emphasized the difficulties in his first conversations with you. But, from what I understand, pancreas transplants have a very good success rate. UCSF has done hundreds. And there are several effective treatments for reducing vision loss.

You've provided good support for others, and I hope you'll stick around and get some that's coming your way.

Ca Robert,

only someone who is personally concerned or touched by this type of situation can understand the importance of your posting. I thought I'd never be a donor (or blood donor in my case) until a member of my family was admitted in the hospital and I had to donate my blood. Since then I have found that my blood group type is very rare (AB) and I understood the importance of being a donor and the meaning of 'saving human life'.

I wish you best of luck and please come back here from time to time.

Cheers, Steven ~
