I've Noticed a couple of the more Successful NYC "Working Guys" have Dropped from $250 to $220 for an INCALL.

Hopefully this will "catch on" as the Terrible Economy I'm sure is and will take away from most Working Guys Incomes!

I'm guessing now those that Advertise $250 an Hr and would not Discount a "2nd" Hr are having Second thoughts! IMHO of course! ;-)

In a few months, well-healed clients will be receiving their investment portfolio reports and will be shocked to see how much money they have lost in the last year. Those residing in New York will also become uneasy when they see the value of their real estate holdings taking the same downward path that other areas have already experienced.

The sight of thousands of investment bankers either walking the streets or living on reduced incomes will send chills through all the entertainment world of Manhatten, including the escort markets. Just wait and see! There is a financial hangover coming if it has not already arrived for many and few will be spared. :o

Let's do some simple math on this on and I am sure things will fall into place… and especially for those who prefer longer appointments.

At the beginning of the year a typical NYC rate was rate was $300 per hour. A two-hour appointment would come out at 600 bananas. Several months ago that typical rate was dropped to $250. Now it seems that things have plummeted to a “mere” $220 per hour for an overall savings of $160 for a two-hour session from rates just several months before. Is that an incentive to hire… SHOOT! You freaking bet it is!!!

Since I hire almost exclusively guys based in the City I have lived through these rates. In fact one individual that I have hired has reduced his rates exactly as noted above. Now this guy has also since cut his overnight and weekend rates as well.

Anyone who is in business will tell you that it is often necessary to adjust fees and rates as the climate changes… and that could make them go up or down. In addition, please be assured that sometimes it is not simply the state of the economy that will necessitate a rate adjustment. It has to do with the psychological perceptions of the public, a possible increase (or decrease) in the amount of local competition as well as a whole host of other factors…

At any rate… well not at any rate… I personally refuse to pay higher than an average of 250 per hour… things have developed so there appear to be some relative “bargains” in the NYC market at least as compared to the beginning of the year.

Well MY thinking is..$220 is Fine, IF the Client wants to TIP $30 go right ahead.

There are those who feel $350-400 is appropriate "Beauty is in the EYE of the beholder" and IF the guys Dick & Butt is made of GOLD.. it sure can't taste very good! IMHO as always!

Of course unfortunately for "both sides"..some of those guys now are probably EX-LEHMAN BROS Employees! ;-)

Renting… Please be assured over the years I have had the best... in fact the very best... at least for my type of scene.

Plus, remember that everything is negotiable.

In addition, sometimes good things come to those who are patient and deliberate in their actions.

Also, it is important to note that there is not always a correlation between price and value.

There is indeed something called being “over-priced” that leads to a basic and unfortunate economic fact of life that is experienced far too often… ”the law of diminishing returns”.

A higher rate, for any thing, does not necessarily mean a guarantee of higher quality. Just because an escort may charge $300+ an hour does not guarantee he actually delivers excellent service. There are guys out there that deliver much better service for even $150 an hour.

The max rate that I will pay is the same as Whipped and I'm certainly going to expect a break for a second hour or longer. The guys that offer that get my business and my loyalty for the long term.

"The guys that offer that get my business and my loyalty for the long term."

And the clients that insist on the above get the label of "cheap hourly johns" from the high-end working guys. Nickle and diming these guys is the mark that you're not in the position to freely be able to hire and pay a guy what he's worth.

There have long been here those who have equated higher rates with better service and assumed that the very best escort encounters are always to be found with escorts who charge the most.

As the years have rolled by, I've seen prices come up and prices go down. There used to be serious price differences between small towns and big cities but no obvious difference in the encounter except that the small-town guys were sometimes nicer and sometimes stayed a lot longer. But the rise of Internet-based forums that exposed prices for all to see soon caused prices everywhere to rise to the level of those charged by big-city escorts and then to rise inexorably as time went on.

While this happened, I noted the emergence of a class of young escorts who thought that they were somehow better than most other people, including the clients who plied them with money and praise. Various escorts here and elsewhere have even claimed that their skills and what they brought to the table were worth more than the services provided by attorneys or physicians. In short, some of these young men lost all sense of reality, at least to my eyes.

Now that the economy has turned downward, prices have fallen and will fall further. In fact, I think the pressures of the economy are only one of the factors influencing the price decline; the other large factor is Craigslist. In most large cities, it's easy to find a hot guy on CL who will provide a decent and fun massage for $100. It's also usually easy to find someone who will be a fun escort for $200 or less. I've done both many times in the last year in many different locations in the US.

There will be those who claim that the quality of escorts on CL is not the same as those on Rentboy or other similar sites. That may be true on average because there are most definitely scam artists on CL. But a little common sense can help weed them out and I've not once had a bad encounter. In fact, I've met some really decent guys who I've seen multiple times.

Should I allow price to influence my decisions? Of course I should! I don't choose to spend $10 to buy a loaf of bread when I can spend less than half of that to buy a loaf that is delicious and makes me happy. The same thinking tends to influence most of my purchases.

There are times when something is only available from a single source and then you have to pay the price or go without. There have been a number of escorts over the years who I've hired at higher prices just to satisfy my curiosity. My experience has only reaffirmed my belief that paying top dollar for an escort means only that you are paying top dollar. I've found little if any difference between escorts at the various price levels except that some of the guys with the higher prices are more full of themselves and less fun to be with. When it becomes a sense of entitlement, it's a turn-off, for me at least.

I believe that 'what he's worth' is a relative asessment to be made by the client. The fact that you (*or the escort himself) judge an escort to be worth a certain amount doesn't mean that he's worth it to everyone else.

I shouldn't have even weighed in on this subject. Frankly, I haven't hired an escort from Rentboy or CL or really any advertising site for a very long time - unless I was hiring them to join a group I'd already set up with several other already hired guys.

Most of the guys that I tend to hire don't really advertise or aren't available for hourly sessions - usually found via word of mouth or recommendations from other escorts I've hired, photographers, managers, etc. Thus they don't typically fall into the "hourly" category that is being discussed here. Aside from the guy I have on retainer, I typically only hire for weekend long sessions and those tend to be out of town trips. Thus I suppose I can't really add to this disucssion.

That said, I will of course weigh in again!

In relation to the original subject of the post - I still can't fathom that if there was an escort you really wanted to see, had heard great things about, had been planning to slurge on a special hire - that $30 would make you pass the escort over. Seems to be a case of missing the forest for the trees to me.

What is a high-end working guy? Most likely a guy who has a overly high opinion of himself and caters to those to whom status is achieved by enjoying the fact that they have paid a "high price" for the services rendered...

Nickle and diming these guys is the mark that you're not in the position to freely be able to hire and pay a guy what he's worth.

Any negotiation is a two-way street. The working guy obviously has an estimation regarding what his services are worth. Likewise, the client has his own opinion... and if in the client’s view a guy is not worth the rate he charges it is his judgment call.

Bottom line: paying more can at times be fundamentally foolish, but then again some guys like to boast that they can afford to pay top dollar. Consequently, if someone wants to overpay simply as a way of “feeling good” it is his prerogative. If a person wants to “nickel and dime” someone it is his right as well…

That's my position.

I rarely find myself in the position of saying "that's someone I just have to see!" Instead, I'll be in a city on business and feel like having company for some part of an evening. Since I will also tend to fit in some work and dinner (without or without an escort, as the case turns out to be), I tend to look for quickly-available company for a short period of time.

Over the years, I've hired hundreds and hundreds of guys, with bad encounters that can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Some of these have been with guys who are the most-well known escorts on this and other boards, many others with guys I've met in one way or another and simply liked. I've hired some guys repeatedly over the course of multiple years and still keep in touch with some of them years after they retired from escorting.

But I don't fall for "star" personas. I like real guys who are nice, fun, smart, sexy and might be the boy next door. I've had great luck finding many of these guys and great fun with the ones I've met. But I'm often of a mind to meet someone new because I simply really like people and really like meeting new people. Meeting a new escort is almost always a fun thing to do.

Consequently, if I'm in a NYC hotel, I'll likely be looking for someone who is able to come over in the next hour or two. With that in mind, why I would turn to someone who wants to charge me $600 as opposed to someone who will offer the same services for two-thirds of the price? As I posted elsewhere, the years have taught me that higher prices for escorts simply do not translate into better service in any way, at least on average. And I'm not willing to pay extra money to satisfy some jaded young guy's inflated opinion of himself.

If I'm looking for someone in NYC, for example, I'll likely turn to CL first. I didn't for a long time because I was wary of CL. But now I'll check it out because the ads generally represent guys who are immediately available. If no one strikes my fancy, then I will of course turn to other possibilities, including Rentboy.

I've hired guys for evenings, overnights, weekends and trips. I've never had a problem with anyone on any longer encounter, primarily because I pretty much knew them all ahead of time, except in a few cases with guys whose reputations were golden. And I'll tell you frankly that I've never paid the inflated rates that one would believe necessary to take an escort on a trip.

It works for me. Your mileage may vary.

You hit the nail on the head.

For me, meeting an escort represents a fun way to spend a little time. My life is not changed in any dramatic matter by the encounter nor will my psyche be affected one way or the other. It's simply about having some fun.

Seen this way, it's entertainment, plain and simple. To make it more than that or to somehow base important parts of my emotional life on these encounters would be a mistake -- for me. Others may approach meeting or hiring escorts with a different frame of mind.

I once told an escort that I could be equally happy sharing dinner with him or having dinner alone and reading a good book. He was not happy with the comparison but it was quite honest. If I recall correctly, the conversation occurred after showering together and basically went along the lines of:

Me: "Would you like to accompany me to dinner?"

Him: "Yes, but I'd have to charge you for the time."

Me: "I'm sorry to hear that. I've got a good book here that I'm enjoying a lot and it won't charge me for it's company. I'll enjoy reading it a great deal and will enjoy my dinner as much as I would if we were sharing it. But I'm sorry you'll miss out on a good meal because I hear the restaurant is quite good."

Him: "OK, I'll go to dinner." :)
