While doing an advanced search on Rentboy for 4/23/2008 Jamie popped up as 2/11 in the days listings. I have seen this listing before and he never fails to get my attention. More than you ever wanted to know about Rentboy of the Day:

 

Until about six months ago it was quite straight forward: the ad which had the most views becomes the next day's Rentboy of the Day, starting at midnight. One could not be RotD more often than every two weeks.

 

Now the staff often overrides that selection, presumably when they start work in the morning. One thing they strive for is geographic diversity (they try to keep it from being a guy from Manhattan two days in a row). So it usually changes somewhere during the day (it's no longer Jamie today but now Ben). Sometimes it changes three or even four times a day. Go figure.

 

I'm guessing here, but I think this is why RotD doesn't always refresh at midnight anymore. The script remembers whom it chose to be RotD and keeps him from re-appearing for two weeks, but it doesn't register those ads which the staff chose to overwrite this selection. Because clicking on RotD only brings up a partial ad, you have to search for the root ad in order to see the stat card and additional pics. This drives a lot of traffic to that ad, and the script now selects it as RotD the next day as well, until the staff comes in and most likely changes it again.

 

You might notice that one particular guy from here in NYC pops up as RotD at midnight just about every two weeks but is always replaced later in the day. I assume he constantly clicks his ad to make it so, and the staff constantly overwrites him. If he specializes in the midnight-to-morning biz, he's doing just fine.

My mistake, currently he only has two ads in rentboy. In the past, he has had more.
