:-) :( :( :( :(

I was perusing the Craigslist ad and guess who I saw?

A more mature Sean Armstrong, who at 26 has decided to broaden his horizons where it counts.

He is now advertising he is a versatile/bottom! A far cry from the strictly TOP he was several years back!

His ad pers-576394277@craigslist.org sean Armstrong

I asked him for an appointment to look and see.

Just a word of caution. Sean has been in several cities recently. In his previous ad in my hometown CL he noted he will do anything including bare backing. I sent him an email and he wrote back to confirm that. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

I usually don't chime in when this sort of ignorance shows up, but this post really annoys me. Words of caution about someone bare backing do absolutely nothing other than burn the flames of ignorance about safe sex. So fucking what if someone wants to have bareback sex; it is anyone's choice to either accept this or not accept it.

The problem that I have with people who caution others regarding this matter is that they denounce any responsibility for their own actions in matters of sex. If you do not like bareback sex, don't have it. If an escort only wants to have bareback sex, then you again have a choice. You are responsible for your own actions, always.

Does anyone realize how ignorant it is to ask someone what their HIV status is? Does it change how you will have sex with someone knowing what their status is? Even if someone received test results today, they could still be positive today. Whenever anyone asks me what my status is, before deciding to hire me, I cringe at their ignorance. Assume that everyone is HIV positive and that everyone is having bareback sex and protect yourself accordingly. If you choose not to, be a big boy and accept the risks involved. You are responsible for your own actions.

Here's the thing that a good percentage of clients often disregard: You can catch some STDs by kissing and/or oral sex. The client that doesn't consider this is the same one that would invariably blame someone for giving it to them.

I responsibly will call any client that I have seen in the event that I am diagnosed with a STD; I have done this in the past and, on more than one occasion, have never heard from the client again because they assumed that I gave them something. The call that I made was not to blame nor accept responsibility; it was to do the right thing so that the client can get himself checked out. Quite frankly, nobody gives you an STD; you give it to yourself when you make the choices that you make. I even had a client grill me about what to do when I have called them. What the fuck?!!! GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!

The sooner people realize that you are responsible for your own actions, the sooner we can grow up and quit playing the role of victim, pointing fingers at people for being not so perfect (otherwise human), and fueling discriminatory rhetoric aimed at people who are living with HIV.

Dear Michael:

Thank you for your from the heart statement. You are right we all need to approach any meeting with have with anyone as being a risk that is our responsibility to hold.

Thank you for being very honest with your clients, as well. I was very fortunate to have an escort several years ago let me know of an STD situation. Fortunately for me it came back negative but I made sure to call the escort when I received the results to let him know and thank him again for calling.

I was disappointed that he no longer practices safe sex. Which leads me to assume there is no reason a need to in his mind now to do so.

Michael I basically disagree with your very old and tired argument. I set a word of caution about Sean and have no issue with doing so. I believe as a client we all need as much information as possible to make an intelligent decision about someone we are too hire. I never indicated that I have not or would not hire Sean or anyone (HIV+ or not) do or not do based on my concerns.

When people stop sharing knowledge, Michael, it will be a very sad day.

I DO agree with Michael Vicenzo that we should all assume that everyone with whom we have sex is HIV+. We can then, with that in mind, take all necessary precautions.

I would agree with Mr. Vicenzo that it is ignorant to ask my next door neighbor about his or her HIV is – I do not intend to have sex with them. However, I DO NOT agree that it is ignorant to ask an “escort” what his HIV status is – I do intend to have sex with him. It is my firm belief that a client has a right to decide whether or not he wishes to have sex with a KNOWN HIV+ escort. The only way a client is going to find out that information is by asking. Now I also believe it is the right of an escort to refuse to provide that information. If the escorts refuses to answer the question then the potential client is free to make whatever decision he wishes. Now if believing this way makes me ignorant then INDEED I AM ADMITTEDLY IGNORANT.

I was told by Sean Armstrong that he does not practice bareback sex!

Apparently, a few months back, he used to live with a room mate who is a very strange and nasty person! This room mate used his computer log ins to spread rumors and the word that he no longer uses protection.

Of course, when Sean found out, he tried to correct the situation, but he does not know who got the messages.

So as far as he is concerned -- he does not bareback!

As for the other issue of HIV status+ both sides of the debate haver merits... Feel free to take sides!

I took the liberty of sharing exactly what Sean wrote to me:

"I do not bareback, I had an vindictive person putting that out there through my computer while I was out of town (a very bad roommate). I have moved back to Chicago because he was such a bad roommate. OK heading out."

Perhaps this will set the issue aside? Sean is back and he is offering his services which does not include barebacking!

I invited him to log in and participate in the blog. he said he used to be a poster but stopped when Hooboy died. Let us see what he does.

O.k., point taken about sharing knowledge. It just seemed that it was leaning towards a discriminatory slant and it bothered me.

I firmly believe that if everyone would just assume all of the risks, shared by information or withheld, we could all accept responsibility for our own actions and then information wouldn't be necessary; it would actually be irrelevant. I just get tired of people wearing the victim dress, I guess.

Has anyone ever heard someone say that so and so gave them HIV or another STD? It really irritates me how people can so easily disconnect themselves from taking responsibility for their own actions.

I agree people need to take responsibility for their own life and actions.. a few years ago while in a chatroom i heard a guy speak up and tell everyone not to go out with this other guy. he claimed this guy gave a friend of his aids.. my response was no your friend chose to get aids when he had unprotected sex with that guy... I'm hiv negative never ever had any type of an std and i owe all of that to myself and no one else. health is an individuals responsibility..
