Hey guys! I am considering the possibility of moving to D.C. I am only familiar with Dupont Circle, and only as a frequent visitor.

Is there a popular source for listings of apartments available in DC? What area of DC would be best for me to consider?

Anyone have any properties they are currently listing, or in the near future, for rent?

It would be for me and my two dogs, with hopes that parking would be available.

Hit me up if you have any information. I am over living in Florida.

Hi Michael,

I have been living in DC for more than 30 years. Though living in the city is fun and convenient, I found living in Northern Virginia especially McLean area is quite nice and quiet. Especially I have two small dogs. I can leave the city behind me every day and it is a quiet less worrisome. DC is quite expensive compared to its suburban. Beside Dupont Circle, American University or Georgetown are quite nice. But you need to have a car if you want to live in American University area. I am partial to VA instead of MD. Annually, Washingtonian magazine does have an article about DC and its metropolitan and where to live.

May be we can be neighbor and you would loan me a cup of cream somedays. :o

For what it's worth, I would strongly advise that you live close (walking distance) to a Metro stop. Locals love to complain about it, but the fact of the matter is that it's clean, safe and reliable. Traffic in DC is second only to LA, so you can find yourself sitting on the highway when you have places to go and customers to satisfy. If you will be open to incalls, suburban-minded customers will worry about parking and nosy neighbors will wonder why you have so many people stopping by at all hours, hunting around for a space.

I am less informed about Maryland than Northern Virginia or DC, but think you might find a nice apartment in Arlington a good location. If you are close to the Metro, you can get out to Union Station for Amtrak, and National and Dulles are accessible with a minimum of hassle. The cost of living in Arlington is not cheap, but I think it would be cheaper than DC. Arlington has changed a lot in 20 years. What used to be a pretty quiet, bedroom community with a lot of government and military families has a more urban feel to it now.

Good luck.

Thank you to all who sent me detailed information about the DC area. I am heading to DC from 1/31 - 2/3 and will be checking out a few neighborhoods during my visit.

Hit me up if anyone wants to get together during my visit. I will be staying in a hotel on Dupont Circle.
