Josh has been quoted as saying some fairly snarky things on the web, and he's clearly someone who likes to do things his own way. This is someone who purposely resisted getting a porn star tan, after all.

 

From those perspectives, I'd say that this may be his way of exiting the porn business, while perhaps commenting on the inconsistencies in enforcing safer sex in the industry or the the lack of congruence between the screen and what porn stars do.

 

He's had a longer career than most porn stars--almost 7 years---and he's never really gotten over exposed. He may have had less interest from producers, or less interesting new role. Or he may have simply decided it was time to move on, with a twist. It all may be tied up with his move back to the West Coast. All we can do is peculate. He's escorted in SF or NYC for years and this probably won't affect his regular clientele. His last rentboy ad indicated that he does use safe sex as an escort, so it doesn't sound like he's completely oblivious to risk. In the past, though, he sometimes had "prefer not to say". He's begun to look older than his age in his pics. That and the BB may make one wonder about his HIV status, but lots of guys in this business are positive.

 

Other posters have noted his intelligence, as well as this apparent disorganization (or perhaps limited investment in the details of running an escort business). He wouldn't be the first bright guy to have trouble managing a calendar or only intermittently caring about such things. "Intelligence", at best, may have some correlation with judgment or success in life, but it's not the whole picture. Being knowledgeable about art, photography or, for that matter, quantum physics, doesn't translate into other kinds of knowledge or skill. We could read any number of things into to Josh's BB video and the other things we've seen, but, at best we only have a few tiny pieces of the puzzle. he may be casting off past things, or he may be stuck in a life course cul de sac. He spent a period of his life in pron and escorting that most college educated people use for career development or grad school. May be he's developed things outside of the sex industry, may be not. All we can do is wish the best for him.
