I have a close relationship with an escort who has a life-threatening illness and needs an organ transplant very soon. It is a huge financial burden and I and others are helping in every way possible, but it has reached the point where our collective resources are running out and we need to ask for more help. I realize this is an unusual post for this Message Board, but to paraphrase an old saying, drastic circumstances call for drastic measures.

If anyone here would like to help (you can do so anonymously), please send me an email or a private message through this forum and I will give you the details and answer any questions. (To send me an email or private message, login to this forum and go to “Profiles” and find my username - ncm2169 - under “N”).

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I should clarify - if anyone would like to make a contribution, you may do so anonymously to my PayPal account using your credit card.

Thanks to those who have responded so far. As I said, this is a huge task with very little time to save someone's life.

This seems as though it is an opportunity for men of means to help out a young man whose escorting career didn't provide the big bucks, or at least the health insurance that he ultimately needed.

People are free to respond or not as they see fit. Those who do would be wise to inquire into the stucture of the assistance being provided, the cohesiveness of the group, the reality of successful options, and the percentage of donations which would actually go to the boy and not some administrative expense. The contibutor might want to know if the boy has indeed alread exhausted all of the remedies available to him and is a likely candidate to succeed at the follow-up care he would be required to take.

Maybe this is the kid, and, if so, I hope the fundraising goes well. We all know people in dire financial straits. As health insurance continues to tighten its noose, more Americans are going to be panhandling for basic health care. My advice to all, escorts and clients, is do not skimp on insurance. You really may need it some day!

Thanks very much for the wise words, Lucky.

I can assure everyone that every cent in donations received will go toward the direct costs of the procedure (no "overhead" or "administrative fees"). I am simply making my PayPal account available to facilitate donations and to assure that donors may remain anonymous if they wish.

He is eligible for a small amount of public and private assistance (there is no insurance) but there is a 5-figure gap between the amount of the assistance and the actual costs of the procedure. We have raised over half of that amount but we need to find the rest in a matter of days.

Just a thought...

You might find more people willing to donate if the details were not so vague. I'm not suggesting you name the escort, but if I were to consider contributing I'd be more likely to do so if I knew

(1)The actual ailment and proceedure required.

(2)The dollar amount you were trying to raise. If that were known it's even possible that some generous member, to whom money is no object, could offer to pay the entire shortfall.

I can't see how this info would in any way compromise the escort's privacy.

If you write to ncm, he will provide exactly those details and more.

I rather applaud him for his discretion and his attempt to NOT turn this into a public spectacle. And, having read the details, I can well imagine the mean-spirited thread this would become. I can almost predict the remarks that would follow, and from which posters. I fully understand the probable reasons he doesn't want to post the details in public.

If you believe in random acts of kindness, by all means write to ncm for details.

That is very sound advice! One really never knows what is around the bend. Even if an escort has to get a day job to obtain health insurance it's probably a lot cheaper then going without or maybe getting private insurance. Although the day job drives me crazy most of the time I have some of the best health insurance around. If it weren't for the health insurance I would have told my employer to take a hike a long time ago.

Thanks for your comments, Deej. :o

Yes, I will provide all the details to anyone who is contemplating making a donation. They are certainly not "sordid," but they are very real. Rightly or wrongly I chose not to post all of them publicly because I wanted the focus to be where it needs to be - on the need to raise money for a medical procedure to save the life of someone who, in this instance, just happens to be an escort.

Steven, thanks for your good wishes, and let me also thank you publicly for your response to my appeal. You are every bit the gentleman that your sterling reputation says you are. :-)

Some folks have suggested I post an update, and I can say that we're making progress but we still have a long way to go.

I should add that, from what I understand, if everyone who visits this Message Board in a month contributed $3 - YES - three dollars - our mission would be complete. 100% participation on that level is not going to happen, but it does underscore the point that every donation counts.

We don't seek an "angel with deep pockets." Rather, we hope for a response based on, "From each according to his ability ..."

I want to publicly thank all those who have responded with their generosity. :-)

It's really remarkable - especially the escorts here who have sent donations. :-) :-)

We're slowly making progress and we're pushing as hard as we can, trying not to offend people in the process. Raising funds in this situation is not easy, but it's all about saving the life of someone who has so much potential.

I just want to say again, no donation is too small.

If I can answer any questions, please contact me!!

You're welcome, ncm2169 and thank you for the kind words.

I received a few emails in my box. For the record, I haven't met ncm2169 and I don't know who the escort in question is, but I felt compelled because I firmly believe in the spirit of community.

I hope others will follow.

To date, we have received nearly a dozen donations from people here – both clients and escorts – although I have responded to more email inquiries which I am hopeful will produce additional donations.

This thread began during a week when many were likely focused on things like vacations, etc., and with that now in the past I’d like to believe that many more who visit here often will respond to the appeal.

The young man is doing remarkably well, considering that saving his life is a race against time (I’m the one who has figuratively bitten my fingernails to the quick).

So, as I said in my last post yesterday, we are making progress but we have a very long way to go and the clock is literally ticking. Let me reiterate: NO donation is too small.

Thanks for your concern and your help, Lucky. :*

Thanks again to all who have helped. :*

We've opened up a few new "fronts" in our fund-raising efforts and they hold some promise. Each day, dollar by dollar, we get closer to our goal. :o

Ironically, one of the communities with which he most closely identifies is here on this Message Board, but fund-raising (a) online, and (b) via a Message Board is hampered by all sorts of obvious constraints - it's not like we can just send a direct mail appeal to all who visit here. So, with management's permission I will try to keep this thread visible until we've met our goal, and I promise to post when we've gotten there.

In the meantime, to reiterate: no donation is too small. And if you'd like to help, please contact me through this forum!

RE: Help for an Escort with a Life-Threatening Illness - Update

Once again, I want to thank everyone here who has made a donation to this effort. We are truly gratified by the response.

Partly due to that response, I can report that we have been able to reduce the amount we need to raise by over 50%, which means that if we can bring in just a few more thousand dollars, my friend will be on his way to receiving the medical procedure he needs very soon.

Totally unexpectedly, a very generous person who got wind of this effort recently made an offer - he will match, dollar for dollar, every donation we need until the combined total reaches our goal.

As I have said several times here, every donation - no matter the amount - counts, and now it actually counts double with the match. If there is anyone else here reading this who would consider making a donation, please contact me through this Message Board.

Thanks again SO MUCH! :-)

That is GREAT to hear. I'm sure the match will help you get to the goal in time.
