I thought there was a thread before the Holidays wherein the Conventional Wisdom here was that reviews decline during those times, but we're now well into January with the same handful per day.x( x(

It's quite difficult for me to fathom that "daddy" has a small pile of reviews on his desk. I wrote one in October which still has yet to be posted. I tried to write three last weekend only to have NONE of them go through. I sent "daddy" an email regarding one of them but have yet to hear from him.

 

I guess I will have my fun and cite some info about it elsewhere! :-(

The whole review aspect of this website has seriously declined in both quality and quantity ever since "under new management" became the mantra.

 

It's a slippery slope and one that could lead to the ultimate downfall of the group.

I know this goes against the conventional wisdom, but I'm finding this Message Center to be a pretty good resource for escort info. Even if there are good reviews on a guy on the Review site, I still come over here and search the archives for the real lowdown.

 

I've watched other folks ask for info on a specific escort, or city, and voila!, someone comes through with the skinny in a matter of hours.

 

In addition, tips from you guys have put me in hot pursuit of escorts that I may or may not have found on the Review site. There's also no issue here with bogus reviews, and reading posts from escorts who hang out here has led me to some very happy hookups I wouldn't have had otherwise.

 

For me, at least, the Message Center is more than making up for any shortfalls on the main site.

I couldn't agree more. Things have gone down hill and it certainly doesn't appear to be anything indicating it will change. I hope new management gets the message and starts focusing on what made this site great. The message center is still what keeps me coming back but I miss the quality and quantity of reviews of the past.

I couldn't agree more. Prior to Daddy's taking over, there were often days with eight or nine reviews, and lots of postings on escort travels and more discussion in the various areas off the forum. Now it's not unusual for weeks to go by without any new information from Europe. The South American file has become moribund where once it was one of the most active groups. There's a lot of energy missing on this site these days. That's too bad. I still check it out daily, but I miss the community of old.

I agree that the Message Center continues to be a valuable resource of information, I also agree that the Review Section is not quite as satisfying as it used to be but it still can be very helpful. In spite of any limitations, I have not found a better alternative.

I find Daddy's Reviews to be helpfull..the reviews give me an idea as to who's out there. It takes a while to get things going, but Daddy's is better than any other review site that I have seen. People tend to compare the present with the past, in everything, and I really don't know if its fair to compare.

I can recall days with the old site where there would only be five a day at times (or is that just me?).

The past always seems better than the present, and lets be realistic the origional Daddy did a supurb job, and pretty much set the standard for reviews..so there are big shoes to fill. I think we will see more postings. I really don't want to see the present Daddy get discouraged or think that he is not appreciated.....because he is appreciated.

Its also great to have this message center. It has me quite interested in a few escorts, and maybe one day, I will see a few of the guys that post here....:-)

I understand its frustrating, and it is easy to assume the worst. I dont know how much Daddy would want me to say, but this is what I will say until he tells me otherwise.

 

There has been alot of things going on with the funds that cover this site and all things related. It has to do with a trust and a shipload of people fighting over it. Which limits how much time and effort can be put toward this.

My advice, is to be patient, and shit will work itself out soon. However, nothing positive can come of talking down or criticizing that which we do not understand.

 

This is a free site, none of us pays for it, and therefore we are owed nothing.

If this is the case and you are correct, then it would make sense for Daddy to advise us of this. It's usually easier to accept less than idea situations if one knows the reasons.

I find it interesting that some escorts have two reviews published on the same day, some once a month while some of us wait for months to have a review published - if published at all (even though acknowledgement has been received from daddy). I don't pretend to know what goes on "behind the scenes". However, if guidelines are established, they should be followed. It's wonderful that this site is gratis. However, I would pay a few $$$ for a reliable site. The good "stuff" - no question in my mind that this is the only escort site that verifies escort info and reviews - m4rn certainly DOES NOT!! That fact alone keeps me coming back!

Well, here's another.

 

It apparently hasn't occurred to anyone that the site cannot control the number of reviews posted each day. That is controlled by the number of reviews submitted each day. Daddy recently told me that submissions are averaging about four per day. (Some days more, some days less.)

 

It strikes me that when reviews are coming in at a rate of 4-or-so per day, that's probably the rate they'll be published.

 

But, hey, don't let reality interfere with all of the other theories floating around. It's way less fun. ;-)

Good Heavens! Are your lives that empty that you have to be concerned about the number of reviews that appear per day on a site devoted to male prostitution? All these guys complaining about the number / quality of reviews continue to rehash issues that have been talked to death over and over and over ad infinitum.

 

And before we get into MER being "better" than here, as near as I can tell they still only post one or two, sometimes a few more per day, but not much more than that. And it appears to me most of those reviews seem to be coming from the same handful individuals. IMHO many of the reviews at MER are just as poorly written and lack useful information as some posted on this site. The MC is certainly less active.

 

Web sites and message boards go through cycles of activity and interest levels. Obviously things have been too quiet and too civil in this MC for a few so what’s better than to start a thread certain to stir up the same old BS to offer some excitement for their dull boring lives.

 

I have submitted several reviews in the last few months and each have been published in due course. Currently I have a negative one pending for another escort that has not yet been published. In no way am I concerned if it gets published in a week or a month or ever for that matter. My world certainly won’t come crashing down if it’s not ever published.

 

It’s absurd to be taking this stuff so seriously that one has to track the number of reviews per day to find some excitement.

What is wrong with anyone expressing their opinion. This site has changed dramaticlly. Why is it taboo to mention the changes and one's opinions of those changes? If the site doesn't wish to know what their readers are thinking, and many think they don't, then they can just ignore their comments and e-mails.

 

As for review writing, I have written many. I consider my time valuable, at least to me. Writing a review takes alot of time if you really try to be fair and write a review that will actually be useful to someone looking to hire. For the review to not be posted, or not posted in a timely manner after e-mail"s" to "daddy" asking about the review can be aggravating. Does it rate up there with world peace and feeding the hungry? No but still aggravating.

 

As for most of the reviews on the "other" site being by many of the same people. Ever noted that some of those use to be the big reviewers here? Wonder why they switched? May explain the reduction in the number of reviews. Some may still not know that this site exist after the old HB site went off line. I review in both places and my reviews have taken 2 weeks to 6-8 weeks to be posted here and at the HB site after daddy took over. One never say the light of day here... but was posted on the other site. HB always had my reviews up in 1-3 days unless he had one of his notorious computer issues.

Honey, I have been coming to this site and to its various forums since 2000, and I sincerely think that the individual who began this thread raised a very serious concern. We who responded "ARE NOT BITICHING!" :-)

We are principally presenting our views of the current situation regarding reviews. I know many of the lurkers as well as those who are themselves hiring and later reviewing definitely have gained from reading the almost fifteen reviews that I have posted over time!

 

We know what was as well as what is! I, for one, truly hope that the reviews increase and that the guy who is chosen for Cover"man" of the Day looks enticing. For the past two or three days, the guys featured have looked rather, rather mundane and extremely basic to say the least!

As the initiator of this thread, I was only trying to start a conversation. As is noted on all of my posts, I have been a member here for nearly 5 years, and I was a lurker before that. I've been around long enough to have watched patterns of Reviews (which are, of course, the bread and butter of this site ... the Message Board is hardly why this site exists). So, I'm always interested in ebbs and flows of Reviews, and of competition, and anything else which impacts on the scene.

Deej, please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this website makes its money by delivering high quality eyeballs and click-throughs to advertisers; and Daddy charges the advertisers for doing so. The eyeballs here are mostly those of gay men with lots of discretionary income, so they represent very high quality to advertisers who sell profitable, gay-oriented products. The more eyeballs, the more click-throughs, and the more business for the advertisers, and the more fees they pay Daddy and/or HooBoy’s estate.

 

If Daddy is happy with the advertising dollars coming in, and he likes the trend, I expect he’ll keep doing things exactly as he’s doing them. But if there are fewer visitors to the site, and the advertising dollars are trending down, and Daddy decides he wants to fix it, I think he’d be smart to come to the Message Center and pull up all the recent threads on user dissatisfaction (or “bitching” as we call it). Right here are the people who are willing to tell him what’s wrong, and how to fix it.

 

I worked in marketing and sales for some smart companies in competitive industries, and customer satisfaction was critically important. It’s no fun to get a call or letter from an unhappy customer, but they are giving you a gift by telling you how to make your product or service better and how to keep their business. We also knew the unfortunate fact that for every dissatisfied customer who contacted us, there were ten to a hundred who did not; they just took their business somewhere else, without a word.

 

This site may not be in a very competitive environment right now, and perhaps Daddy doesn’t need to change anything at all. But there’s at least one other site that’s trying to compete, and others that seem nearly ready to do so. They want the advertisers that Daddy has, and the advertisers want the eyeballs that Daddy has, and the eyeballs is us. So I expect the day will come when the comments here will become more valuable, both to Daddy and to his competitors.

It is true that the principals behind MER were frequent reviewers here in the old days. They were heavy hirers and good friends of Hooboy, and they left here over personal issues with those who continued the site after Hooboy's death. I'm not sure that they attracted a lot of new reviewers, however, to that site. I have noted here before that the potential number of people who regularly hire and then write reviews is probably fairly limited, so the loss of a few frequent reviewers is going to be noticeable. Also, many "first time" reviewers rarely write second reviews, which makes their credibility hard to judge. The number of reviews published here does seem to have fallen, but I don't think the quality of what is published has declined substantially. I think the real complaint is from those who have submitted reviews and not seen them published, or published in what they think is a timely manner. I can't make that complaint, since my only recent review was published within several days.
