I don't know if this is the right forum for this--but over the years I've heard of several escorts who have died--but then I find ads still up for them. This strikes me as extremely creepy. For example Studfiles (http://www.studfiles.com) has a guy named Mike in Chicago who had the aol e-mail of bodnrod still on the site.

Also Bruce Jennings from Portland--reportedly died in the last year--still listed on the site--plus his web site is still active (http://www.brucejennings.com)

During the summer I heard that Austin Black had died but his web site was still up--although i couldn't find it today.

So why do sites keep guys who obviously aren't paying for space anymore on the site-also who would keep a web site up.

Anyone know of anymore of these dead but not gone from the web guys?

Web hosts offer many different payment/package options. For instance, if you pre-pay for one year and croak within that year, your site will stay "live" unless someone is authorized to take it down. It can't be taken down without password access to the Control Panel and I believe Power of Attorney is required to shut down any site in the event of death.

Also, not all host masters pay attention to their many accounts/servers and, unless someone officially notifies the host master of a death, the site can remain "live" and in limbo.

Obviously, many escorts work in secrecy and use a pseudonym. It's quite easy to imagine a situation where no one is aware that a pseudonym has died. The same is true for any tom, dick or harry with a free (Yahoo) webpage. If the information isn't available to the executor at the time of death, the url can live on until, who knows? Welcome to clutter and trash on the web.

Quite right. My own web host screwed up renewal processing last time around. They didn't bother trying to contact my default email address on their servers, so they closed the account but somehow there was a disconnect and the site and email stayed "live" for 10 months until I noticed I couldn't access the control panel.

(I'd move to a different host, but this is the only problem I've EVER had with them so the grass isn't greener...)

Escort advertising sites have always been notorious for leaving up outdated listings to make their sites look "more full". If M4RN took down all the outdated listings (those that have no contact information whatsoever), they'd be decimated.

Daddy will note on reviews that an escort has retired when he's notified. But darned few notify him.

Just as someone has to be proactive about putting information up on the internet, someone has to be proactive about taking it down. (And then it lives on in caches for years.)

Personally--I think M4RN would only benefit from getting rid of the dead wood-so to speak--but then I am not running the site--so what does it matter what I think. But it's ridculous that whatever algorithm on M4RN controls the opening page that shows all the mugshots--and changes frequently--that sometimes over half of them are outdated listings if you take the time to click on them.

Also I was looking at M4RN once--and it said that the person was online--clicked on the ad--and the listing was inactive--so no way to contact the person even if you had been interested.

Ads of dead escorts still creep me out--I know I have also come across sites--not very many--that still talk about Scott Klein and Androkid--I wish webmasters were more honest and would prune their sites.

How is a webmaster supposed to know? Most of the sites are completely automated. No human ever makes a decision.

If someone puts in a cancellation, a cancellation happens (sometimes) -- but it can only come from the account owner.

The dead guy can't notify the site that he's dead because he's dead. How is it the webmaster's fault for NOT acting on a vague rumor?

Have you forwarded your information to the webmasters in question, including proof? Should they take your word and then have an account holder furious because their account was killed because of a loose rumor?

There's a ton of room for malice and abuse here. Webmasters can only act on what they KNOW to be absolutely true, and dead men don't talk.

...excellent question, but I think the various webmasters would be the only ones who really could address the pics and information at their particular sites.

I've written to some masters regarding other matters only to get rather sanguine replies. I abhor http://www.men4frentnow.com when one goes to it for a particular city and get guys from throughout the country. I know that many 'scorts travel, but list the locals first and the travelers last.

The wm told me that he was working on this, but during the past several months, I have not seen any improvement.

Just as an addendum to the above--it wasn't an original feature but something that has been added to M4RN probably about a year ago or so.

I think there are a couple threads on Bruce Jennings' death. He was a remarkable guy--he had partial paralysis from a beating he'd taken when his apartment was robbed, years before he got into porn/ecorting. I would like to have met him.

Kristian Brooks, who escorted on & off in San Diego and made a porn video a year or so ago, died of AIDS fairly recently. I think ATKOL had the obit.

Didn't know about Austin Black. My understanding is that he's had HIV for quite some time. I've personally known a number of long-term AIDS survivors who've died or been very sick in the past couple years. I suspect we may see some older escorts die in the near future.
