It would appear the young man's body has been discovered in a wildlife preserve and the possible suspect has committed suicide.

Very sad story.

HOPKINTON, R.I. (AP) The remains of a British tourist missing since April have been unearthed in a wildlife preserve, and authorities say the body is linked to a suicide in New Hampshire.

Adrian Exley, 32, of London, was last seen on April 24 at a train station in Swampscott, Mass. His body was identified Wednesday with dental records by the state medical examiner's office, Rhode Island State Police Capt. Stephen Lynch said. Exley's body was discovered Monday night.

Investigators did not yet know Exley's cause of death and were still awaiting the results of an autopsy, Lynch said.

But authorities believe his disappearance is connected to the suicide of Gary Leblanc, 48, of Lynn, Mass., who killed himself last week in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Claremont, N.H.

On Wednesday, Lynn police released a statement providing a chronology of events leading up to the discovery of the body.

Police said Exley arrived at Logan International Airport in Boston on April 20 for a weeklong trip to visit Leblanc, who police described as an acquaintance of Exley's. Police said the two men had met via the Internet.

Before leaving his home in London, Exley told his family he would be staying in the Boston area. Exley's family contacted Boston police after he did not board his return flight to England and did not contact them, which they said was uncharacteristic of him. Police said that the contact number Exley left with his family was Leblanc's phone number in Lynn.

Lynn police have been running a missing-person bulletin on Exley on their Web site for more than a month, and last Thursday Lynn police and Massachusetts state police searched Leblanc's home as part of their investigation into Exley's disappearance. On Friday morning, Lynn police were informed by police in New Hampshire that Leblanc's body had been found outside a parked vehicle in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Claremont.

Leblanc left a suicide note, although Lynn police would not comment on its contents or say whether he had provided them directions to the location of Exley's body.

But on Monday night, Massachusetts State Police asked Rhode Island authorities to search Rockville Wildlife Management Area, giving them specific instructions where to look in the park, Lynch said.

That night, state police from Massachusetts and Rhode Island found a body in a shallow grave about 50 yards off a road in an area with thick vegetation. There were two large rocks near the grave that helped police identify the site, and dogs confirmed a body was buried there, Lynch said.

On Wednesday afternoon, a hole three feet long by two feet wide could be seen at the site, next to a large boulder that sits on top of a smaller boulder.

Lynch would not comment on whether police suspected foul play led to Exley's death or where police believe he died. But he said the investigation started in Massachusetts and ``the bulk of the activity'' was there.

Major Steven O'Donnell, a spokesman for Rhode Island State Police, told The Daily Item of Lynn that a suicide note revealed two men had disposed of a body of a missing man who ``shared a lifestyle similar to theirs.'' There was no additional information given on the second man.

Exley's personal profile was posted on a Web site for men interested in wearing rubber and Latex clothes and practicing breath restriction during sex, the Item reported. The case has spread fear through that insular community, according to various postings on a Web site devoted to that lifestyle.

Chaz Antonelli of Quincy, who knew Leblanc, spread the word that Exley was missing on bulletin boards on gay-oriented Web sites. He said he wanted help in finding Exley and to remind the community to be careful when setting up meetings online.

``This is the kind of thing that can happen when you meet someone at a bar and don't know who it is,'' Antonelli said.

The Rockville Wildlife Management Area is in a secluded and sparsely populated section of the state, about 28 miles southwest of downtown Providence. The park isn't heavily used, although it has fishing ponds and hiking trails, said Gail Mastrati, a spokeswoman for the Department of Environmental Management. Boy Scouts occasionally hike through it on their way to a nearby summer camp.

Lynch would not comment on why police thought Exley's body had been buried there.
