So how do we handle thieves who steal other escorts pictures?

I originally posted this under another post where a theif wasusing someone elses picture.

 

So what are the clients' opinion of thieves who steal other escorts' pictures. Do you still consider the thief? What is the opinion of of other escorts? Should escorts report those guys here? Several times I have noticed guys using other escorts pictures. If I have an email for the escort who has been violated I will send an email to the guy telling him who is using their picture. Should I report that on line here? I do not think any site is really sure of what pictures are real.

 

I think it is worse than I guy who has a friend mfg a review. I have asked the escorts what excuse they received and one told me the thief said he was new and his friend got a bunch of pictures to post for him. Boy that was lame. Another escort reported the false advertising to the website but still the pictures remain on line and the theif will not return calls and refuses to take the picture down.

 

Anyway just gathering some opinions and what should we do.

Auggie, In all "Reality", since we all definitely know "Nobody is Calling the Cops" in this False Advertising Scenario, Nothing can be done. That's why it exists to begin with. IMHO of course. :7

Unless the FCC or some other agency gets involved (and that ain’t gonna happen!) there will always be false advertising out there. Yep, guys have others pose for them and they steal pics from other escorts. However, most simply never update or use old photos of themselves in their ads. That’s one situation that really irritates me.

 

Now with the age of digital photography ANY photo can easily be doctored… like one guy who gave the excuse for his non-muscular appearance as due to the fact that he was not working out due to a recent injury… Yeah right!

 

Also, it is extremely easy even for a child to pilfer pictures from the internet....

 

So we must all do our homework… in the review section and here at MC… and elsewhere if necessary. Remember, that even if not much headway is made, in the long run the offenders will be punished by not much repeat business…

I kinda like Talvin DeMachio's approach. He sends an email to his mailing list (which he's been building for several years) encouraging everyone to write to the offender. The perp's mailbox is promptly filled or flooded so "legitimate" mail can't get through. }(

 

Other than that, there's not much that can be done. It's an unregulated business.

 

This IS one of the reasons this site came into existence, so posting here about it isn't a bad idea.

There's been a couple of instances where I have seen listings where I have either suspected a pic was stolen or knew out right that such was the case. No, I would not consider hiring someone who posted spurious photos.

IMO an escort who knows his pics have been posted by another escort should report the situation to clients via this or other sites.

Recently I noticed on Rentboy that a picture posted for Rentboy of the day was not that of "Modigliani" but actually the pic was Steven Draker. Steven had posted a notice about this guy a few weeks earlier and that's how I knew about Modigliani's scam. I think Modig also uses some Brazilian guy's pics as well.

 

I posted a notice here in the Deli and on MER as well. Next I sent a message to Rentboy Admin that the pic was a fake. And sent a note to Steven to let him know about the matter.

 

No, there is no way I seriously expected Rentboy to do anything about the situation. But IMHO guys that "borrow" pics need to be called out on the matter. If one newbie out there just happens to see the notice here, or elsewhere, and avoids getting ripped off then it was worth the effort.

 

Let's face facts here, sites that generate revenue from posting escort profiles don't have a vested interest in if the pics are real. All they are concerned about is the advertising revenue. Consequently caveat emptor prevails. Therefore sites such as this are beneficial to both clients and the truly hard working guys who take this business seriously and don't seek to rip people off.

While JT might have been a little more blunt, i would wholeheartedly agree with his observations.

 

I've had people use some of my shots as their own on sites like MySpace, AOL, etc, but never in the realm of the escort industry. It seems to me that it's much more unlikely that someone would try to snag your image if it's got a head attached. 'Body-only' shots are easy to parlay as your own when someone's not familiar with what the face ultimately looks like.

 

As for webmasters of listing sites who refuse to comply with their very own TOS? Well, they're in the business of staying in business, so having a full site of hot guys available for hire is what they're ultimately looking for. I can't count the number of sites that i've been listed on that i had nothing to do with. Escorts usually just get a 'welcome to' email when webmasters are done inputing your stats and it's up to you to visit the site, login, and see what they've fouled up. Fun, eh?

 

How have i handled people swiping my images? I don't. I usually hire the San Antonio-version of Jessica Fletcher and she takes care of things for me. She's a tough cookie

 

But seriously...

 

When you knowingly put a self-image online in the context of an adult-based website (or otherwise), you've got to realize that it's going to get passed around like a virgin on prom night. If you assume that people are going to respect your alleged 'copyright,' then you are just fooling yourself. In a non-unionized, unregulated industry, this site is one of the lone wolves in making sure that people know what's up, down and sideways.

 

I'm all for sniffing out those who pull such dastardly deeds, but let's be realistic: It's not going to ever stop.

I turned away one escort because he used a false photo. I would never call an escort using someone else's photo for the obvious reason that he must be much less handsome or well built, or why would he use anothers photo. I have also reported it to the actual escort whose photo was being used.

I think that if you see an escort using another escort's pic you should post about it here and warn his potential clients that they are not going to be getting what he is promising. It's what this site is for.....Hell, with photography being such a tricky business to begin with, you never really know for sure what you are getting until he walks off the plane and opens his mouth...so, you definately need a heads up if he is lying from the start.

whipped guy is right.. best to do your homework.. There are way more FAKE ads out, especially on men4rentnow.com due to the cost to place an ad is much cheaper that rentboy. But even a hustler with fake pics will recoup the money in advertising cost by some sucker who fell for the bait.

 

The old Bait and switch routine is done all over the internet even with the female escorts. That's why on eros.com they use a system where they put EROS VERIFIED stamped accross the picture because they person who put the ad verified they are the actual model in the picture by supplying information needed for verification. But the male escort ads will never do something like that because its all about MONEY. They will put up any ad as long as the user is paying for the ad. They don't care, why should they, they are getting their part of the bargin.. THE MONEY.

 

It's best to stick with what you know, and their so many escorts using these enourmous morphed cock internet pictures, I am shocked that their are people that fall for it... I hate to generalize it but a lot of the fake ad's are faceless ads. But their are some fake ads that show partial face an its not the escort either. Bottom line .. do your homework..If by chance you fall victim to a FAKE.. you meet up with him an he is not what you expected by his pictures, WALK AWAY. Would you buy a bootleged DVD out of Circuit city...

Ricky and Whipped are totally right. He being one of the guys whose Face is shown in most of his photos, has cut down on use by the Frauds, as has Mark #3 Chicago, who originally had nothing but Torso shots! Torso's are definitely suspect nowadays, EXCEPT where a Review is also included. But there are many more out there, where a Creditable Review, is not available..

 

Anyone who does not just say "No Thanks" to an obvious Fraud, will definitely be paying for the Next Months Phoney Photo Ad on a site like Rentboy!

 

I am sure this is Rentboy/ Modigliani/NYC'S M.O.for months, as has been other's over the year's. You would think though, after such a long time, The Power's that be, would do something about the Obvious Fakes on Rentboy? But knowing the Bottom Line is about the Bucks!IMHO of course.
