Had a very nice email reply from Rick today and am considering hiring them when they are in Boston.

Here's my question - is Rick "Queeny" - his posts are often written that way - and when someone says "play Ethel Merman in the background and Rick will love it..." it makes me afraid he's a big old queen.

Thoughts?:p

Absolutely not. Rick isn't femme or queeny or sissy or whatever. Very masculine as is Derek. THey're well matched, physically and personally and that's part of their appeal.

Now's your inning......stand the world on its ear!

I agree Lanky - and trust me I've taken the plunge many times - I just have very particular tastes and face & attitude are two of the most important things when it comes to Escorts. I typically don't hire in Boston very often - usually New York and LA - sometimes London.

Just don't want to be dissapointed.

LOL My posts are "queeny"? In what way? How do you determine that someone is "queeny" (a word I really dislike) from their posts? Have I ever ended a post with a finger snap or a "you go, girlfriend"? Do I type with a lisp? Am I supposed to end each post with "yo" or "bro" in order to "butch it up"?

Btw, if you're interested in finding out about a guy's personality, you should call. I think you can tell a lot about a person over the phone, especially whether they're masculine or not. My phone number was included in the "very nice email." :p

As for the Ethel Merman comment, that was a joke. I am not into her nor am I particularly into show tunes, etc. (my current iPod playlist includes Patti Smith, The Who, Elvis Costello and Bowie) but I don't see how one's musical preferences indicate masculine or feminine behavioral traits. I did buy The Ethel Merman Disco Album when it was reissued on CD a while back and I posted about it here because I think it's one of the worst things I've ever heard, which is why I like it so much (I appreciate the comedy aspect). But having to explain it like that sure takes the fun out of the joke. :( (oops, I used another smiley....too queeny, huh? :p Damn, there I go again...)

This is an interesting thread, since I have seen Patti Smith twice in the last two weeks (opening for one of my faviorite groups U2 at Madison Square Garden as well as her own "Horses" concert at the Brookly Academy of Music). I also read the new Ethel Merman biography, "The Biggest Star on Broadway," and saw "Jersey Boys," the mostly great new Frankie Valli musical. Perhaps I should have watched a football game too.

I thought we were past the days when listening to Merman or Karen Carpenter automatically labeled you as queeny, guess not. By the way, Merman wanted to do volumn 2 of the disco album because the album brought her so much attention (all bad - but it kept her name out there).

What the hell counts as "Queeny?" I've always thought of myself as liking to joke around and "camp" but in my younger days I had trouble picking up guys because they thought I was the Fuzz or a NARC. One guy's "Queen" is another's "Stud."

As for Rick and Derek, neither one is "femme" in my book. Rick is a bit more outgoing and Derek is more reserved but both are hot and I still look forward to their return to Chicago.

Yes, there you go again!! LOL! Hell, I've never met you but have read many of your posts and without even reading your reviews would think you were a pretty masculine guy. I could see where some of your humourous comments could be misconstrued, I'm thinking of your (apocryphal?) doll collection, but other than that, I can't think of of you as "queeny" at all. You go, guy!}(

In response to a question on page 1:

The new Merman biography is pretty awful -- by a hack called Geoffrey Mark. The book supposedly tells the truth (for the first time) about the Ethel Merman/Ernest Borgnine marriage.

Ethel was 58 and Ernie 48, both had been drinking heavily since the wedding reception. When they finally get in bed, Ernie could not get hard. Ethel, in her usual prim and lady like voice,: "You can't get it up? What're you, a fag?' Borgnine slapped Merman hard, Ethel hit back, so did Borgnine. The marriage lastly less than a day.

Does the author cite a source for this? Ernie? Or perhaps the author was hiding in the closet, as it were. It's more than understandable that a guy couldn't get it up for Merman. Ugh!!! That face! That pussy!! At least Mary Martin slept with Janet Gaynor.

Final words on Merman.

The author claims to have written the Merman/Borgnine story "sentence by sentence" from a variety of sources. In the last 20+ years of her life, Merman had a group of strong women and gay men as friends -- all of whom generally tolerated her drinking & were much less well known than Ethel.

Borgnine was her 4th husband. The first three did not fare much better than Ernie, although the marriages lasted much longer.

According to the author, Merman had a long friendship will Lucille Ball which somewhat cooled when both ladies had too much to drink and Merman happened to mention a 1 night stand with a very young Desi Arnaz.

And what of Mary Martin? Geoffrey Mark: "Merman had tremendous respect and affection for Martin. AND her business management. Martin was richer; Merman was better." Merman had to work (until age 77, the year before her death), Martin didn't. Given that Merman resented almost everything and everyone, I am sure she was jealous of Mary's wealth and stable life (long relationship with Janet Gaynor and success of son, Larry Hagman).

From what I know about Ethel Merman, she was the originator of a lot of great Broadway musical roles such as Gypsy, but she never got to duplicate them in the film versions. But for me, she cemented her immortality on film forever as the loud-mouthed mother-in-law in IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD.

Thanks, Lanky. Yeah, I think we do complement each other...actually, just yesterday when we were checking out of our hotel in Boston, the concierge said "goodbye" to me and then a minute later, Derek passed him and the concierge got a confused look on his face and said, "Didn't you just walk out the door already?" We didn't think we were that much alike...maybe it was our aura. :p

Alan, I hate you! Not really, but I wanted to see each of those concerts but couldn't get good seats. How was the Opera House (BAM) show? And how was she at MSG? I have seen her at much smaller venues like Central Park or the Warsaw but never at a stadium... ;(

I really do have a celebrity doll collection. I don't think it's a "feminine" hobby, though. For example, I use my Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls as martial arts weapons. :p

You think someone who grunts out, "Shut the fuck up and suck my cock!" is reserved? :p Btw, we look forward to our return (and seeing you again), too.
