Lafayette Park in D.C.

Quite a few years ago while stationed in the Army near DC I used to

frequent Lafayette Park (directly across Pennsylvania Ave from the

White House). Back then it was a great spot for cruising or picking

up hustlers. I never failed to make contact as it was always crawling

with obvious prospects. Caution was extremely necessary when using the public mens room - no physical contact while using the urinals

because DC police had access to a two way mirror directly behind the

urinals. Is Lafayette still usable for making contact or has it gone

by the wayside?

Wayside. For years it was a lovely hangout for the homeless, right across from the President's house! Since 9/11 the entire area is patrolled like you can't believe. The cruisy days of Lafayette Park have gone the way of the dodo, as has just about all other street cruising and lowlife night life in D.C. ;(

Is that the public washroom where a top aide of LBJ was caught in an act of oral sex with a hustler? LBJ fired him and it made a huge impression on me at the time as I was still in the closet and didn't realize these kinds of activities were happening in the highest circles of the land! Of course these days it's sorta ho-hum!:+
