Posting Links to Rentboy Profiles

God knows I struggled with it long enough, so I sympathize with those of you who have trouble posting links to escorts on rentboy. Here's how to do it, using Internet Explorer:

 

I randomly selected an escort - Javor in NYC.

 

1. Go to rentboy.com

2. Left click on an escort's pic, which will bring up his listing page.

3. When his listing page appears, right click anywhere on the page (except the pics).

4. Scroll down to the last choice - "Properties" and select it.

5. A window will appear which contains an address/URL; in Javor's case, it's: http://www.rentboy.com/location/getrb.asp?rentboy=3678&Location=229&speciality=Rentboy&keywords=&modifiedDT=&page=3&only_available=0 0

6. Copy the address/URL.

7. Paste the entire address/URL but delete everything after "Location=229" (what you want is: http://www.rentboy.com/location/getrb.asp?rentboy=3678&Location=229) before you hit "post message."

 

Voila.

An alternative:

 

Instead of left-clicking on the escort to open his page, Right click on him and choose "Open in new window" (IE) or "Open in New Tab" (Firefox).

 

Once the ad opens in a new window or tab, copy/paste from the browser's address bar. It can be a little easier to deal with than the options dialog, particular in Firefox where the URL doesn't line-wrap.

 

This also lets you test the URL once you've removed what you think should be removed. Just click reload/refresh. If the ad displays, you've got a url you can post. If it doesn't, close the window or tab and try again ... you removed too much or too little.

 

(Mac users: CMD*-Click works in place of right-click. Or it used to.)

 

*I think it's CMD ... it's the funky Splat key.

Deej, unless I'm missing something, "open in a new window" is not an option.

Don't open his whole ad. Right click on the main picture of his ad. Then you will see the option to "open in new window".

You're right-clicking in the wrong place. :-)

 

You have to right-click on the linked picture. Clicking just anywhere on the page won't work.

I think it makes it even easier if you keep this url as your Rentboy link in your Favorites tab and go from there.

I tried the suggested techniques. They captured the URL, but when I pasted it into my message, it didn't highlight (underline)the item or display in blue. What am I doing wrong? See below, please.

I am a new Mac user... and where did you say that one could find the funky key to use instead of right click???

(They told me that they were much easier to use than PC's but I am lost in the process of learning a new system...)

Its been several years since I touched a Mac (unless you count the trick from St. Louis a few months ago ;-)), but it used to be next to the spacebar. It's the key that looks like it has a four-leaf clover on it.

When you post a message, there's a checkbox that says "Check here if you want to format your message in plain text." If you check that, your message will be posted in plain text. :* In other words, no formatting, no links, no smileys -- just the text you put in.

The most irritating thing is that I have spent several days looking for books, or manuals, or instructions of any kind, and for some reason there is nothing published for the basics of MAC. Apparently they want their new customers to find out by themselves.

(Sure, the computers itself are pretty damn cute, but now and then I do miss my PC)

True story: a friend (a successful technical author) had trouble finding a publisher for her Mac book (which became a best-seller in the genre) because every publisher she pitched it to said "Mac users don't read books".

Last I knew they were still publishing 'Macs for Dummies'. My mother swore by it.

 

.. and deej's story has some gravitas -- most mac users don't read books. What wasn't apparent was a journey of exploration and discovery. :o

I have a Powerbook G4 and the right click is the " Ctrl " key.

They use the "Apple Sign" for the others functions such as " Ctrl + C ", " Ctrl + v "....

Being "bi" (Mac & PC) gets me in more places, but gets me confused at times!

 

I think for some of the right-click functions on some Macs is "click and hold." then a menu comes up for those alternate functions.

Another solution for the right-click is to use a Microsoft mouse with your Mac !
