>What would you do if missing a $7000 watch under these same

>circumstances?

I think I'd wonder how I ever got a "$7000" watch while being dumb enough to leave such things in drawers... Especially given that I'm dumb enough to then wonder if I should file a police report, given that there's no way to make an insurance claim without it...

The review before that one was bad too, with no reply, so I wouldn't be too sure of a response from Mr. Ryan. Hope he invests the $200 the pawn shop gives him wisely, looks like his "career" is on the downward slide.

Insurance is easy. Buy a $5 watch at K-mart, run it over with the car, and take pictures of the remains. (And pick up a second watch while you're at K-mart. ;-))

The thing about a $7,000 watch isn't so much being able to afford the watch as about being able to afford to lose it. Or drop it. Or leave it in a hotel room. Or have the dog eat it.

A friend once showed me his spiffy new designer sunglasses that he got for $1500. The first image that jumped into my mind was sitting on sunglasses I'd left on the front seat of the car. ;-)

Some things just aren't worth that much money no matter what prissy designer label they carry. I'll never be convinced that Rolex time is more valuable than Timex time.

And when the adjuster asks you for proof of purchase, what do you tell him, that you paid for a $7,000.00 item with cash? I'd check your insurance policy before you try this -- it probably specifies proof of the item's value (other than just your word of honor) as a precondition to filing a claim.

Amen brother!! That statement applies to many things other than watches.

I had the same reaction as deej...I would be too scared to wear something that expensive for fear that it would be damaged. Its like my mom used to say, "You just cant have nice things."

I guess if your income was through the roof, it might not even matter, but I dont know if this was the case.

When I told one of my (straight) friends that I paid an escort $200 to jerk me off he replied, "Shit for $200, Ill jerk you off." He was semi-serious.

Another friend of mine responded that thats pretty much what he paid a women escort, but he got head too.

>But I do have to wonder who would spend $7000 on a watch...

My company give empoyees solid gold watches on their 15 anniversary with the company. I received mine many years ago and wore it almost everyday for a year or so. But I found myself being nervous just walking down the street. And if i went home with someone (or brought someone home) I was afraid to take it off. Taking a shower afterwards made me a wreck--did I leave it off and vulverable to a grab-and-run from my trick or test it's guaranteed water-resistance?

Then, I began collecting cool vintage watches as well as exceptionally cool modern watches (I really like Hamilton's American Classics line of watches). The gold company watch lives in a lock box except for a few specific occassions each year when I bring it out for company events, weddings and other super dress-up events. And I no longer have to worry about having the equivalent of a small economy car worn on my wrist.

Deej,

Similar thing happened to me. My mom bought me a cool pair of Ray Bans for my birthday and I managed to hold onto them for like 7 years - probably a world record for sunglasses for anyone. I often put them in my shirt pocket. One day, I sit down in a dining room chair where my shirt was hanging, lean back and hear CRACK! ouch...

I want to be in the position of being able to know that I can AFFORD a $7,000 watch.

ONCE AGAIN! one of the very few voices of reason, on this site, belongs SURPRISE, to woodlawn!

Been there, done that, as far as this scenario goes. Woodlawn is correct, in that, you must have registered your jewelry purchase with your insurance company, via a sales receipt/appraisal, in order to get recompensed in full for your loss.

Most home owners insurance has a limit, typically $1500, for personal items. If you have items more expensive than that, especially jewelry, then you need to take out a separate policy on those items. Such a policy will require a receipt of purchase/independent appraisal sheet to be filed at time of purchase to add it to your coverage.

James, is wrong, as you do not need a police report to collect on your loss, if the item was registered on your policy, as such a separate policy for personal items such as jewelry, covers losses due to factors other than theft. I collected for a ring lost during a move, and for a watch that an overnight guest stole (which equates to this topic).

As a word of warning, I would advise anyone who has a separate policy to cover items, such as jewelry, to keep all of the original receipts/appraisals, as the insurance companies will try to not pay you for your losses, without those original receipts, even though they copied your original receipt/appraisal when you added the item to your coverage.

I am almost embarrassed to state that I am a watch fanatic as well as a Brazil fanatic. I usually am a lurker on this board and only post on the South of the Border area. But I had to chime on this topic. First, I always though Jack Ryan was hot and second, because of the fact that there exists an entire subgroup of fanatics who have an abiding interest in interesting time pieces. And $7000.00 retail is chicken feed. The more interesting question is if the stupid john who left out his watch in front of an escort/hustler paid retail (a total idiot!)or possibly something much less than the original price. In reality, Rolex, Patek Phillipe and a couple of boutique brands are about the only lines that sell for retail or possibly ten to fifteen percent off. With a little work in searching for the desired model, aCartier should be around 40% off. In the interest of not being called a total idiot for how I choose to spend my funds, I won't list my entire collection. But there are a number of interesting wristwatches which run much more than $50,000 and even $100,000. Just check out the Ulysse Nardin Genghis Khan. Only thirty will ever be made, and that's over a five year period. Kind of like with a Michael Brandon on this website. God makes only one and then pretty much broke the mold for the Monster.

>Woodlawn, he is asking how to claim the watch stolen by the

What does smashing a cheap watch and taking a photo of it have to do with filing an insurance claim for a valuable stolen watch?

>But I do have to wonder who would spend $7000 on a watch...

As a couple of the subsequent posters mentioned, to a real watch aficionado seven grand is chickenfeed. To me, the reviewer's experience raises the question whether we have gotten to the point that the reviews on this site are so unreliable that a client can't even have the confidence to take his watch off with an escort who has many positive reviews here.

IHPGUY,

Screw that man !!!! If you have the money, buy what you want with it and be proud that you earned the money (As long as you are not buying and selling kids in some sweat shop.

When people buy art, we dont look down on them. I put escorts and watches in the same catagory...pieces of art to be enjoyed and respected.

This guy is EXTREMELY bad news and has been for quite a while. The negative information here is no surprise to me ...

I attempted to hire him in San Fran a few years back. He showed up looking NOTHING like the pics he sent (totally out of shape). When I told him it wasn't going to work for me he refused to leave and began to physically threaten me and my property unless I paid him. I don't pay guys to lie but I regrettably gave him $100 just to get him out of my apartment. I've never forgotten it - my worst escort experience EVER!

Lustinguy,

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Like you, I'm also a JR fan and was even tempted to hire him but one night I was chatting with someone online and he told me that he had hired Jack. He didn't have any problems with him physically, but he said that he just seemed uninterested. Of course there was indication of that in his reviews so I've been hesistant to hire him.

However, it does seem that something's going on with the guy and I would hope that somebody from this community who's been to him can somehow contact him and help him get straightened out. I'm being way over optimistic, but I hope that the reviewer, HollyHillsMarc posts here in a few days and says "My mistake! I found the watch under the bed!" But I'm afraid that's very unlikely to happen.

I hired Jack and had a great time. Gave him a good review here. Of course, that was back when H5 fell at Agincourt, so he could be a crackhead now. Hmmmmm, that could be even more fun.

Later.

PS. Go to Ocean's Twelve only under extreme pressure from a loved one.

PPS. The Times review of the fag play was right on. La Cage is most fun when the Cagelles are on.

If the review of 12/12 is accurate. looks like this guy is deteriorating into some bad news. Any other info? Of course, he gets the last word and we'll anticipate a response.

What would you do if missing a $7000 watch under these same circumstances?

Looks as sexy as hell in all his pics...if pics told the whole story, I'd hire him in a second. But messages like yours remind us how it pays to explore on this site.

It saddens me to see how low Jack Ryan has sunk. I've always enjoyed his movies and had looked forward to meeting him when I was in California April 2004, but couldn't connect.

I sincerely hope he gets whatever help he needs in order to stop the downward spiral.

And, he seemed like such a nice guy !

Well thats one of the points of this posting, I suppose. No matter how nice they seem, always exercise caution and common sense. Leave the money handy but not any of your valuables. If someone doesn't appear as advertised, probably best to end the session right there and then, as discussed at length in another thread on this forum.

My condolences to those who have learned a bitter lesson at Jack's (and others) hands.
