Earlier this week I posted about the NationwideEscorts scam surfacing here in Lake Wobegon in the form of a listing on AmericanMale for "str8forgay", a guy whose very hott pics have been pirated and who Nationwide has named Derek. A client friend of mine also "bit" and emailed "Derek." When he registered an objection upon discovering "Derek" was another Nationwide scam, he received this reply from Nationwide:

< Shows you how much your dumb ass knows. We've already had some nine bookings on just Derek alone this week. And we have all tolled several hundred such escorts, lol.

Very, very few people even know Hooboy exists and if you bother reading those posts you'll see just how often those Hooboy members get taken, even after there have been threads about us. So, Hooboy just has very little effect.

LOL

Well first, the guy could take a little of his filthy lucre and invest in spellcheck.  ;-)

But seriously, can you fucking BELIEVE how brazen the bastard is?? x(

Go get 'em Crack!! }(

P.S. FWIW, I notified AmericanMale as soon as I discovered the scam early Tuesday, suggesting they consider removing the listing. It's now Thursday evening and the listing remains up. :-(

Same scenario with me, only it was an LA listing....

Their response:

[blockquote]

If YOU ever stop committing the crime of solicitation, let me know.

But that will never happen.

You're an old hag who isn't man enough to get anyone on their own and you

have to resort to prostitutes, which everyone knows is illegal.

SBC will love the email you sent soliciting someone I am sure.

[/blockquote]

Another response from an entirely different ad on a different date went so far as to quote the registered address & phone number from my domain registration record, threatening to call the police and alert my neighbors.

(Apparently, Cupcake hasn't heard of registration services who hide "real" domain registration information from exactly people like him!)

He'll have to evolve to achieve pond scum level.

OK, I'll be the first to admit to being stupid. Do you mean that your ISP is sharing this info with others or that it only applies to registered domains?

I don't have a registered domain. Is my personal info safe? How much do (or can) you find out about me?

You can relax, sorta.

ANYONE can find out the registered owner of ANY domain. It's a public query website. Unless the owner went through a registration service, in which case a great deal of the private information is hidden, until requested by a valid law enforcement subpoena.

As for your ISP, well, privacy policies vary. AOL has a well-abused history of disclosing inappropriate private information at the wrong time. How much of your personal information is available will be a function of your ISP's privacy policy (and if they don't have one, SWITCH!), and how well-trained their customer service operators are.

If you're *really* paranoid, UNPLUG YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION RIGHT NOW AND NEVER CONNECT AGAIN! It's the only way to remain completely anonymous on the internet. If you choose instead to continue using the internet, assume that some of your private information may leak from some of the various companies that have it. That's just modern life. There will always be a trail to you if someone is determined enough to find it.

You cannot be online and assume you're completely anonymous. That's just not how it works.

It's a lot like safer sex decisions. You have to decide where your comfort level vs. risk level is.

Just a quick update to an earlier post of mine today in another thread. After reading the reply ncm2169 posted above and the information deej shared with us in this thread it would not be in our best interests for me to post updates on my search for this guy.

Obviously he is well aware of this message center and I do not want to unintentionally give him a heads up on my findings.

Therefore, I will stay in touch as time allows with ncm2169 and marc anthony. LOL as these men do not know they have just volunteered but I have had communication with both and they appear to be outstanding Hooboy citizens. Naturally, I will be happy to update any other poster who contacts me who has a long history on this message board.

Anyway, as mentioned before please continue to send information to my in box here. I will be busy with my relocation the next 2 weeks but will be working on this case as well.

Together we can locate this scum and put a end to his crimes.

Crack.

Suddenly i feel as though HB should be coming onto the MC to offer a 'Final Thought'...

Honestly, if you want to be a real bastard, simply find someone who can 'park' any website attached with Nationwide. Shut them down piece-by-piece. Furthermore, as CTS said, it's probably best to keep said progress to private email rather than continue giving NW more exposure & ultimately a bigger heads up for what might happen to them.

I'm still in shock that people would send some unknown outfit money over PayPal or otherwise. Learning by the seat of your pants is probably the most eye-opening experience and hopefully this con doesn't take anyone else. It's good to know that there are people 'on the case' and working to expose things...

Go get 'em guys :)

Warmest Always,

Benjamin Nicholas

Two thoughts:

First, in that reply the guy has essentially admitted that it's a scam.

"...if you bother reading those posts you'll see just how often those Hooboy members get taken, even after there have been threads about us." :+

Second (and I have had occasion to say this previously more than once, on other topics), a lot of people seem to think that we are just chatting privately among ourselves, and that "the bad guys" are not here to listen/read. Don't forget that this is an open message board, and the chances are that anyone running an agency (real or scam) in this business knows about this site and checks it. Announcing and discussing what is being done with regard to this scam and providing progress reports will almost certainly have the effect of alerting the scammer, and thus working against the goal. People should be careful about what they post and also about what they say to the scammer if they are in direct contact with him.

I'm not surprised, and, while I deplore the scam, I wouldn't expect them to take it down just on your say-so. I think they are right to leave it up, at least for now, pending further evidence.

From their point of view, why should they take it down just because you said so? They don't know who you are. Maybe you are right and honest. But maybe you are a rival escort or a bitter ex-bf just trying to ruin his business. You have no credentials with them and you have no proof.

Then too, there is a chance (however small) that you are wrong.

And they certainly don't want to get into the hassle of checking out all their listings and to be in the position of endorsing some as "legitimate" and rejecting others as scams. They run an open listing service and the motto is "caveat emptor," just like with classified ads in the paper. The Star Tribune doesn't guarantee you that the car in the ad really was driven only on Sundays by a little old lady going to church.

It would be different if you had evidence or proof. Then they would probably pull the ad since they could be liable for knowingly posting (or continuing to post) a false ad or being complicit in the scam. But you don't have that. You didn't get taken, and you didn't lose anything. The guy asked for a deposit up front, you refused, and he sent you a nasty email.

YF --

I only referenced AmericanMale because in one of the now lost threads on Nationwide there was a post that suggested AmericanMale knows about this scam. Clearly they have the right to include or exclude any listings. However, when a scam is as widely known as this one is, it doesn't help their credibility. :o

< They're an advertising site

I hear what you're saying, but I sure don't see much advertising there. Can that many people really pay the MancheckPlus fee just to see the XXX content?

Just out of curiocity, I contacted this website about a hunk they advertise. Once again they did as reported and Told me I must send in a retainer first.

I have decided to shut them down. I have friends high in government. Some of whom are gay. We can easily lead federal government agencies to this site for a sting operation without revealing our involvement.

Look for these guys to disappear very soon.

:-) ;-)
