Yes. A friend of mine used to get a bit sappy over the escort ads in the BAR (the SF gay paper). One particular escort always caught his eye. So, for his birthday, several of us chipped in and bought him an overnight in a local hotel with the escort in question. We called the escort, told him what we were up to, and he got very in to it. Actually the movie was called "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" and is memorable for the scene where Richard Gere is doing push-ups wearing only a jock strap. What an ass!

A client of mine in Newport Beach routinely hires several guys for parties (and no, while this may sound like an orgy, it never is) where some of his friends (many highly closeted) show up. While not a specific gift, he often gives a lot of thought and consideration to potential pairings.

"Looking for Mr. Goodbar" was a very popular book in the late 70's. It was made into a movie in 1977 starring a young Diane Keaton as a school teacher by day; casual sex adventurer by night. It was in a pre-AIDS, sexual revolution left over from the 60's, time in America.

 

Tom Berenger was the pshycho date, but Richard Gere was also in the movie as a mildly disturbed date. Actually they wern't really dates as much as bar tricks. It is an interesting movie about an interesting time in our recent past.

I have been hired as a birthday gift many times. But any more I insist that the person who is receiving me must not only know what he is to expect but also, specifically, whom. I had one bad experience where I was the giftees type (although, now that I remember it, he also then asked me for a free session) and one or two where the giftee was only to receive a massage but hadn't been warned and didn't like massages so reacted negatively as soon as he saw my table. (As well as one or two where the gift giver wanted to stay around and watch, which is a real nono. There are so many things that can go wrong in this situation.)
