Men 4 Rent Now Changes After Friday 11/15

Men 4 Rent Now has finally gone to CCBill (whom they likely did not want to go to initially as they charged more fees than PayPal did) and will start charging the escorts for their listings as of November 15th. Therefore, while they are going to maintain the content (the escort's photographs and profiles), clients should start to see many more escort listings without contact telephone numbers. Finally, those escorts who do not delete their ads (and most likely will not bother to do so) and who do not pay for either the basic or premium advertising service will no longer be available for contact by the clients. In other words, an e-mail will not be forwarded to the escort and no explanation has yet been provided to the visitors to the site (i.e. potential clients) that the escort will not receive notification that he has received contact e-mails.

 

Finally, since they announced this policy change several months ago, when they first decided they were going to start charging the escorts for providing the content to the site, the number of "available" escorts (and body workers, etc.) has maintained somewhat steady at approximately 1750, while the total listings are at least 1000 profiles greater than that. This would indicate that even at the present free status of the site, some 1000 profiles are not regularly checked by the men who created them.

Damn good question, Rick. I know as a client, since I discovered the site last Spring, I've been a daily visitor ever since. It's clearly one of the most client-friendly sites around. On the other hand, if a lot of escorts fall out and don't pay to be listed, the site will go downhill, IMHO. If that happens, I may still make daily visits for the eye candy, but look for more serious info on other sites.

Uggh...a real Catch-22 (or is that Catch-69?). Maybe I should take the lead and pay for an ad and hope that all the others fall in line (behind my ass). ;-)

i'm HUGELY against paying for ads, but... i think i'm gonna pay men4rentnow. more people email me from there than from any other ad i have. (this site is still referring more visitors to my website than any other.) anyway, my free trial expires on the 22nd. i'm at least going to buy a month to see if i notice any drop off after the changes franco indicated.

My first choice for content and layout. SO IMO yes, especially if the escort is not in NYC or LA. In those cities rentboy is probably the site of choice if limited to one. For other cities it seems the best choice. I know a number of escorts that will pay because the get business. I know others that say they will not. Time will tell how it shakes out.

Hmmm... well...

 

First, rentboy is well established historically in those cities and is likely the first choice for locals looking.

 

Second, rentboy has been a charge site so those listed are serious enough to pay for listing whether it be serious service or serious rip-off. Thus clients may feel it to be something less of a goose chase. Free listing at men4rent no doubt led to some 'casual' listing, i.e. not that serious, athough most seem to be serious about being listed. eg. yourself. Which leads to the next item -- a convenience factor.

 

Although I generally prefer the layout of men4rent... over rentboy, men4... display fewer escorts per page thus requiring more page loads to view the entire catalog -- an aggrivation. And the casual listings no doubt aggrivate the volume to be loaded. A search operation can circumvent this in some instances.

 

On the other side of the coin, free listing at men4... has brought fresh meat to the scene, much of it serious. And it is my impression that men4... draws more variety in listings than rentboy which seems heavily tilted toward older and tops. That is incentive for some of us shoppers. Remains to be seen how many of these free listers will stick with it now that 'pay for display' has kicked in. It is really an easy decision for those that get a few hits or more a month off of the site and have a credit card.

 

Outside of NY and LA the rate structure and business opportunities are not attracitive enough to induce paying for rentboy. Fallout over men4... payments will also be greater too but it is still cost effective for those with producing adds. The genious of men4... was to offer free listings that induced guys to sign up swelling the content and more. Those that are making decent money off the site will be inclined to chip in the $30/month now that it has swiched to pay. Few of these guys would have joined a pay site cold without any indication of what the payoff for them would be.

Some of what the clients here say is very accurate for Men 4 Rent Now: no other site has listings that cover some of the smaller cities, which are certainly large enough to support a few escorts (including traveling escorts) of varied tastes and interests to clients. While this is one of the drawbacks of M4RN (that there are too many guys in small towns and small urban areas who do not take escorting seriously and simply view the placing of a free listing on the M4RN site as a way to get a few laughs and hopefully make some spending money), you will not find any (or very many) listings on most of the other well known escort sites (Guys 4 Rent, All American Male, Male Prime, Rent Boy, etc.) in towns such as Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; San Jose and Sacramento, California; or say Birmingham, Alabama and Little Rock, Arkansas.

 

Thus, M4RN at least has the opportunity of providing wider diversity to the clients, certainly in certain geographic areas. It also had a very good search engine, albeit most of the clients did not realize that the escorts who came up at the top of searches were based solely on how frequently the escort logged in (and, in the future, on whether the escort pays for either a PREMIUM or BASIC listing or does not pay at all).

 

As for Rent Boy, at least in my opinion, more clients use it in certain cities, such as New York, than any other source, and when I return to Manhattan, I think it would be a better expenditure of my money to advertise in Rent Boy than in Next or HX.

 

This brings up another thing about Men 4 Rent Now: if I were an escort in a city where the local gay media did not allow escort advertising (or the advertising was largely non-existent), a site like M4RN would have more value to me than it does in a city like Los Angeles or New York.

 

This said, personally, I am going to wait and see how the site plays out before I decide to spend my own money; while it does generate many "leads," I do not feel that it genuinely generates many clients of the type that are generated, for example, from this site: clients with experience hiring, clients familiar with the process, and clients with a genuine interest in hiring, rather than the infrequent or casual need to get off since they find themselves on a sex and cruise site.

i generally agree with you franco. this site is a good marketing tool. it sends more visitors to my site than any other SINGLE site. (interestingly enough, it is the message centre that tends to send more visitors than my review page--in SPITE of what jason might want to think.)

but, of the escort listing sites on which i have an ad, men4rentnow sends me the most leads. i've decided that (at least for now) enough guys follow through on the inquiries to warrant paying the $30. we'll see if that holds up as they enforce payment requirements. i'll keep you posted.
