What's up with In Newsweekly? I leave town for two and a half weeks and the escort pic adds have disappeared. ;( Can it be that they all expired at the same time and no one chose to renew. What a coincidence that would be. Did the rates quintuple? Have the Brahmans taken over the classifieds department? Are they appealing to a more literate audience that reads instead of skimming from pic to pic. There weren't many and they didn't change much, but every now and then it was nice to see a new torso make an appearance or Talvin make a coming-to-town-annoucement. Is this also the case in the edition of last week? The week before? Inquiring mind wants to know.

Write the newspaper and ask: LetterToTheEditor@innewsweekly.com.

There are still escort ads; maybe the folks who pay for photo ads just all had their ads end at the same time. Maybe IN NEWSWEEKLY is charging too much for these now. Maybe they decided to stop carrying them (though somehow I doubt that).

Maybe all the escorts are switching over to interenet sites.

Ask the paper. They likely know the reason.

Ask The Editor(s)

I head to Boston on Monday and has thus contacted this newspaper about advertising. I had to write them three e-mails and finally left a voice mail for the classified ad manager and then I finally got a response from them.

The newspaper advised me about three weeks ago that they were no longer accepting photographs with escort classified or any more display classifieds in that section. They did not respond when I asked why.

The two copies of the paper I saw a few weeks ago, and the current issue I saw on sale at Lambda Rising here in D.C. seem to have one page of escort listings in total, so perhaps some guys have also stopped advertising with them completely.

Since they were so hard to deal with, I did not even consider or pursue a text only classified of my own.

Thanks for the information confirming, sadly, what I suspected. A bit of a puzzlement to me since they do continue print adds.

RE: Ask The Editor(s)

A "usually realiable" source has informed me that the reason "escorts' Pics" are not being published is that some "heavyweight advertisers" want to advertise in InNewsweekly but refuse to do so until they (the newspaper) clean it up.

Doesn't make any sense to me and I suspect that there is more to it than meets the eye. In any event, print ads for escorts are still in but photos to accompany those ads are not....you figure it out.

RE: Ask The Editor(s)

I emailed the letter-to-the-editor informing him that for one reader the paper has gone from must-read status to a toss-up read with the other local rag. :(

Curious. Personally I prefer BAY WINDOWS, as a *news*paper, over IN NEWSWEEKLY, which is the bar-oriented paper. But if INW is looking to get some "major" advertisers now and are dropping their escort photo ads to do this, then it seems they might be moving away from the bars--but to what type of paper?

IN NEWSWEEKLY Update

Tampee Tankee,

No, INW is still not including photos of escorts in their paper. But they are putting a symbol ("W") by those ads with photos which you can then look up on their website.
