Why is my business so much better in SF than in LA?

When I first worked SF I was making very good money. I had lived in LA in the past although at the time wasn't advertising on the net. Just Frontiers. After living in SF for 3 months and running in the BAR and Rentboy I realized that SF is one of the most lucrative cities to be an escort in.

LA is odd. I can go days without seeing a client. I have good reviews and good pictures. I just don't get it. I have only been in SF since Friday and didn't even start seeing clients until Saturday. It would have taken me nearly two weeks in LA to make what I made here in SF in only three days. I'm dumbfounded, anyone want to throw me some input.

In LA, buffed gym-bots are everywhere. Last time I looked at offerings in SF, there wasn't a lot of that. Your unique (and VERY pleasing) look is more difficult to find in SF, I suspect.

I have to agree with deej.The last time I was in San Francisco the ads in the BAR were full of a bunch of scary looking freaks.Now don't get me wrong-freaks can be fun to play with-but I do not pay to play with them,and I would suspect that a lot of guys coming into SF for buisness do not want some freak show showing up to their hotel room.Some might-but the majority want a nice clean cut kid-without a bunch of tat's,piercings,unnatural hair color.

San Francisco versus Los Angeles

 

When I decided to move back to California and told my friends I was not even considering San Francisco, they all had a fit of one sort of another.

 

Markets in each city are different, in a number of different ways. Los Angeles is the home of the adult film industry in the Valley and the porn boy, gym boy look is prevelant (and especially visible) in this town because of this.

 

Los Angeles is also a more lookist, superficial town that skewers younger. I know a leather escort here in Los Angeles (Roger) from volunteer work with the Tom of Finland foundation. He is in his 40s, in good shape (because that is the law in West Hollywood at any age) and does quite well here, in part, I would guess because there are not many men at any age offering leather services. For that same reason, I believe I do well as there are not very many men who are smooth. I also have been told by my straight / bi identified clients that many of the escorts they have hired in Los Angeles have not been the most masculine things on the planets, thus they like me. On the other hand, the men who want a Billy Brandt, Brogan or the like, will not call me.

 

On the other hand, San Francisco is full of a lot of guys who are unemployed or underemplyed and the advertising rate for the Bay Area Reporter is far less than that of Frontiers. Some clients who contacted me this weekend said, "well so and so only charges $100" so I responded, "well, if you were happy with so and so, please contact him again, I am sure he would appreciate your continued support."

 

Finally, whenever I talk to any escort who travels (for example, Dirk Logan was just in San Francisco and he is in his mid 30s), they all same the same thing: they did well because they were "new meat."

 

Talvin was advertising in San Francisco the same time I was there, while Jake Walker is still staying he is 28 and using an 8 year old photograph, he is not, and Derek and Rick had already started advertising and both are in their early 30s, if I recall correctly. Devon is 29. I am sure all these guys did and do well in San Francisco or they would not continue to live there. I also do not think San Francisco is a city that skewers young and places such a premium on body culture as in Los Angeles (for one thing, the weather is different, so more clothes is worn in San Francisco and the body is more covered up most of the time).

I think everything Franco had to say is true, but I might also add that there is not a huge number of new escorts continually popping up in these parts. I check the BAR every month or so, and rarely see anyone new (who's not travelling from out-of-town). Since most clients have "types" they're looking for, this means that a client can go through everyone he may be interested in pretty quickly. And as devoted as one might be to a certain favored escort, we all like to try new things on occasion.

I've been a lurker here for sometime, felt I had to say something after all the chatter here about Mr. Westin.

My first hand experience was also 'detached', Aaron picked-up a magazine to get hard for me. Realize that I have substantial weight, but am also very presentable, and quite kind.
