Do American and UK tastes differ that much?

Anyone who visits the European bit of this message board will know that I've been running a one-man ad campaign for a particular escort who I like very much - he's hairy, compact and muscular with great oral skills...I'm not going to mention his name again here because that isn't the point of this post, but it is clear from the lack of responses and from other messages in the European section that I'm in the minority in finding his "type" attractive. Or are American clients more open to try different types of escorts, without being fixed on one particular type? Just a year or so ago, it seemed as if most escorts were either naturally smooth or clean shaven with stubble. Then suddenly the magazines started showing <gasp> hairy guys again. It's not so much what's fashionable, than it is what's trendy. I personally find it peculiar that body hair can be trendy, but the lack of it certainly was for while.

 

Personally, I prefer hairy guys, or smooth guys, but not stubble. Be yourself and you're way ahead with me.

In the past, I would have said the preference for the hirsute was more European than American. Maybe, there has been a reversal but I have not noticed it. I think if one is apparent it is more a function of UK tastes converging to American tastes.

I don't think so. In fact, if there is a difference it is more one between Amsterdam on the one hand and London/NY on the other. I think you find more escorting size queens in the latter than the former.

Thanks for your comments; my views about client preferences in the UK are really based on the range of escorts one sees in magazines like QX or one websites like http://www.gaydar.co.uk or on http://www.london-lads.co.uk The latter does have a wider range of types of guys - but still the hairy escorts are vastly outnumbered by the natural or induced smoothies. Gaydar is dominated by twinks; for some of them their balls haven't dropped yet, never mind them sprouting body hair! But what's available must to some extent reflect client preferences - or do you think supply isn't that sensitive to demand?

Mine is a very London-centric view - I have no experience of the scene in Amsterdam. By "escorting size queens" do you mean that literally or do you mean the escorts in London/NY tend to have bigger dicks? (I've always thought a size queen was a big dick-fancier not necessarily a big dick-owner).

It isn´t just hairy, London guys are very thin. AND, MUCH, MUCH WORSE, they all smoke! The new hairstyle in London seems to be to have the back of your head show long hair resembling a rat or otehr rodent. Plus, the assorted fashion choices just don´t mesh with our typical All-American Boy.

When I first moved from New York to London thirty years ago, the gay look in Europe seemed very different from America, and it took me a while to get used to it. Nowadays, every gay man in London seems to be trying to look like he's an American.

An Observation
