Holland America Line cruise

I have booked a cruise on the Holland America Line going to South America. Hopefully they have managed to solve their health problems onboard. Does anyone have experience with " Amsterdam " ? Any of the crew members available? Any info appreciated.

I haven't been on the Amsterdam, but I've been on two HAL cruises-- one to Alaska and one in the Caribbean. The majority of the crew on all HAL ships is Indonesian and Filipino. From what I've heard, there's quite a bit of "below decks" activity, but I think it's frowned upon for them to "fraternize" with the guests.

I would agree that HA has an inordimate amount of 'horseplay' between guests & employees... especially in regards to the ship's entertainers. I've got a few friends who perform on HA ships and they've told me some wild stories about serious 'guest hospitality.'

 

Of course, if caught, employees are usually left at the next port without a plane ticket home... Pretty rough, eh?
