Cooper,

If I did want to date this lady (oh my, I must be loosing it), I probably would get more out of her than I do from her dancers. Oh god, get me the pepto bismal.

as for "you do miss out on the fun of discovering some new jewels in the mix who don't ordinarily escort - especially if you like straighter, or straighter acting types. Normal fee $200, so every fourth one could be a dud ".

Every fourth one???? gee, either you're got great charm that works with those guys or your sights are set VERY VERY LOW. Of course, if I liked straighter acting types....What the hell is that....someone who chews gum and cusses as he commands "suck my dick":*

You didn't ask if Denise, the owner of the Gaiety, was a lesbian. Let me refresh your memory, you called her "THE OLD LEZBO UNDER GLASS". And perhaps, when you grow up and stop calling people names, you'll understand the difference.

1- there are 2 different women who work the door at Gaiety, both with red hair cut similarly but one is markedly more friendly than the other.

2- anyone who was there on Tuesday night (9/3) for the late show and latter part of the next to last show, knows that there is something worse than women who come to gaiety and get catered to by dancers, and that would be a group of cackling, giggling foreigners (mostly women), who come in and disrupt a dancers act, walk up and take over the front row ( I think they actually asked someone to move over so they could sit together) and then proceed to just annoy the audience. One of them actually stood directly in front of the dancer on stage and waved his friends down to the front. At one point I think someone asked them to quiet down which made the loud gay male in the group get loud saying something along the lines of "You shut up...dont touch me!". You know it is bad when the dancer had to play crowd control: Andre the Giant, bless him intervened with "Relax theres plenty for everyone". True :9

For me the night never really recovered from there. :-(

I went to this place once. For me it harkened back to ancient slave trade, where eunuchs were compelled to display their wares to all potential buyers. But instead of Egyptians haggling over castrated Hebrews, they had...oh wait, that's exactly what was going on, my bad.

Plus I kept tripping on those fucking folding chairs. What is this, a country chapel? Lose those clumsy things.

Thanks for the warning, I'm attending the late show tonight. Any suggestions as to what a patron can do to combat this type of behavior? I'm not the type to sit still. Any foreign words I should know in advance that they would understand (other than the obvious).

LOL...Great post! Just how long ago was it that you attended this "slave trade"? I don't ever remember folding chairs...you should see the seats now, they are fastened down, cushioned, and even have a cup holder. We've come along way since the slave days....

I'm sure I didn't us the word "OLD", at least I didn't think I did and quite frankly I can't be bothered going back to check.

I am puzzled as to why you spent so much defending Ms Denise, unless of course, she happens to be your mother....... Now there's a thought. That would explain almost everything about you personality!

TREVOR

Thank you for the posts above re: Trevor. I saw him outside the Gaiety smoking as I was making a phone call and said YOWWWZERS! He ignored me. Then I realized he was one of the dancers. Looked for him in the lounge, but no trace. Now I'm really glad I didn't go there.

THANK YOU !! :)

Hello All,

This is a long post. I guess I should have headed Cooper’s advice and posted earlier then letting it all build up.

I have been following this thread for some time. There has been so much I wanted to add but I did not want to sound like a big deal, full of drama, and self-important. Since I am described like that DAILY by friends, family and coworkers I said “what the hell” and here it goes. Seriously, I do hope what I share here helps someone in the same way I needed assistance when I first ventured into the Gaiety the summer of 2001.

REALITY

First and foremost, people need to have a real reality check when they enter the Gaiety. The music is loud and only the best, the AC is pumped at full so you are always comfortable, there is no indication of time as there are no clocks and windows, and the lights are low so you are relaxed. It is an unnatural situation to see naked men who are near perfection (and some are perfection) dance very close to you. However, one must keep a good grip when one enters the lounge. I remember the 1st time I was approached. He came up to me and asked, “Don’t I know you?” At the time I thought he was for real! I thought maybe I did know him and someone from my town was a stripper! This was a hustle my friends and I was clueless. I was clueless as I walked through Times Square with him and I was clueless in the elevator in the Comfort Inn on 46th Street. I thought I was going for my 1st male lap dance for $100. $200 later I was still clothed, he was naked and I got to touch him. Sounds like nothing? You are right. However, for this very simple person, it rocked my world! I spent $600 in the course of the next 2 days for a grand total of $800 (for a total of 4 privates where I was clothed) plus admission and readmission into the Gaiety. When I finally snapped out of it I knew I was acting like a kid in a REALLY NICE candy store. A few days later I went back. I met the most wonderful performer. Unlike the others, he INSISTED I take my clothes off and not be ashamed of my body. He insisted we kiss a lot. He fucked me. He sucked me. I no longer felt ashamed of a body I was made to feel ashamed of by society and my own judgments. Yeah, he was paid. Yeah, it wasn’t a natural setting. BUT it felt so good. The REALITY is these boys will talk the good game because they want the private. Don’t we all want to be paid in our jobs? They do. Some of us “Johns” do get lucky and become friendly (on an odd level) with some of these boys. Some don’t. They are not looking for new friends. They are not looking for a new best man for their potential weddings as most of them claim they are straight. They are looking to get YOU off ASAP so they get their money. I have no problem with that, as I now know “what time it is”. However, I have a problem with fellow “Johns” who are afraid to speak up and find out what they are getting. YOU ARE SPENDING GOOD MONEY. You tell them what you would like them to do and what you would like to do. If they don’t agree then you DO NOT GO WITH THAT PERFORMER. Other performers will hear, know and smell what is going on and what one won’t do another one will. You will only feel like CRAP after spending that money and not getting anything close to what you want. Talk to them. Ask them questions. I do not go with any performer who does not kiss. Many of them don’t and I understand why. However, that to me is a criterion. I also REFUSE to spend over $200. I have paid as little as $100 and as much as $250. However, I refuse to go past $200 anymore. Make your own limits. Formulate your own questions. Know the reality.

CONVERSATION

Many of them are quite skilled in telling you what you want to hear. These boys are intelligent businessmen. Be alert and be aware of this. However, there are so many boys that are really sincere. I keep in contact with 2 via email and phone. One of those 2 I may never do a private with again because I feel odd paying for sex with someone that I talk to about my life with. I know some of you do not want to see or hear from them again when you are done with them. Just keep a foot in reality and know you are hearing what they think you want to hear. It is all about making you feel good so you go with them.

DENISE, THE GAIETY, FEMALES, ETC.

In my opinion Denise is the only person to talk to if you have issues with female patrons. Keeping tips away from performers, boycotting privates and vocalizing all this to the performers won’t do a damn thing. Why? I do not care if Girl Scout Troop #826 shows up and takes up all the good seats because if there is a performer who I want to go with I AM GOING WITH HIM. Guys, our PENIS overrides political convictions, points of view and our immediate values. It does not bother me that a performer will talk to a female and give her attention over a tip. HOWEVER, If she COCK BLOCKS me to getting a private with a performer I want to go with then some weave will be pulled out. I also have a problem with the females who attend that dress like tramps. However, complaining is like being in a rocking chair: it gives us something to do but we get nowhere. Denise NEEDS TO KNOW a ladies night MUST BE SET UP. How do we get that message to her? An organized boycott for one show (not a whole night - I mean GOOD LORD I will have a stress attack from the withdrawal) will make Denise pay attention. We let Denise know no one will be in attendance, for example, the 6:15 on a certain Friday because we feel she needs a ladies night and she can’t allow ladies in on the non-ladies night (or ladies show). I am Greetalian (half Greek and Italian). I understand the Greek work ethic. That woman (Denise the Greek) will die in that booth. She knows business and money first and then everything else comes next. It is the Greek work ethic. If we cause attention by slowing the flow of green for one night she may get the point. And the snacks are NASTY!!!! I do not like to feed on a salt lick. They can do some variety. We need to write letters, sign a petition (no last names of course BUT it will be funny to see a petition with just 1st names, like 23 Bobs, 47, Jacks, etc.) or do something organized so she makes some changes. Yes, for $17.00 I think it is a bargain as you can spend the whole damn day in there looking at beauty. However, since we pay that also gives us the right to speak up.

In the end … these are just my opinions. We can agree to disagree. However, if you do a private this is a wonderful way to do it. You get to see before you buy, you get to talk to the performers and you get a better feel of things. Of course you can always contact an escort, set up an appointment and not do this dirve-through approach. BUT if you do use this approach, ASK QUESTIONS AND BE ASSERTIVE. This is your money and time. If you don’t like what you hear then you don’t go. EVERY performer I did not go with after our discussion of what would occur did not go my way has been polite and quite understanding. They will not get mad and you won’t be responsible for them not having fare to get back to Canada … I mean home. And, anything you dislike about the Gaiety needs to be told to Denise. The dancers don’t care only because they know they can’t change things. In addition, they will be gone in a few days anyway.

I am done. I have gone on too long. I hope this helps someone. In the meantime, sit close, tip well, ask questions and be assertive for yourself. There is nothing worse than being shy, LESS $200 and unsatisfied sexually. If I could get a Gaiety performer to deep kiss, fuck and suck me (and I could do the same back to him) in a complete hour for $200 you can too (and you won’t see that on a Hallmark encouragement card!).

Great post, VDN. I appreciate you honesty and insights. You inspire me to tell my own Gaiety story.

I discovered the Gaiety in the 80's. I still remember my first visit. Transcendent is not too strong a word. I was at one of the weekend shows, and in those days the group scene at the end was longer and more interactive. After a show of the most beautiful men I had ever seen, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. In those days of course the backstage area was available, and I have to say that many of the lads were superbly willing and skilled. The numbers 40 and 60 lodge in my memory.

I have continued to attend the Gaiety regularly ever since. The big change occurred with Giuliani, with the end of the backstage play areas and the installation of the security guys. The next change was the arrival of the Canadians. Until a few years ago, the dancers represented a more diverse mix of backgrounds and experience, with some professional types who worked the national strip club circuit, but also with real students and "mid-Jersey" guys who seemed very grateful and happy to have stepped out of the world of malls and parking lots into the big city. I have had dozens of wonderful conversations (and sometimes more) with those kids. I find the conversations at the Gaiety now have become much more narrowly focused on commerce, and it is a less interesting place for that change.

I don't like the arrival of the women any more than anyone else. But realize that Denise has been running this place for a long, long time, and she is focused with a laserlike intensity on profit. The Gaiety only remains open because it makes money. She will never turn away a paying customer, and if you think she will discourage what appears to be a growing demographic in her business, you're crazy. Unlike VDN and others, however, I don't think that the ladies night idea will work. Most of the people who come to the Gaiety come on the spur of the moment, and a lot are from out of town. These people will just present themselves at the ticket window, and will probably not return if they are told that they are not presently welcome but can come back for a segregated experience, like Negro Day at the dance show in Hairspray. If gay men are to be completely accepted, we need to be free enough to enjoy what we do even when women are watching. They are NOT our mother, sister, wife, daughter or niece. But we can make them understand that they are exotic visitors to someone else's space and experience, and we can bracket and contain them with amused, polite distance. The boys will hear what we say to them and pass it on, since their potential to make real money from the women is practically nil.

One other concern. The most cursory glance at the building the Gaiety shares with the Howard Jonhson's reveals it to be one of the oldest and most decrepit in the neighborhood. Does anyone know who owns the building is it Denise?), and what long terms plans there are for that piece of property? My advice is to enjoy the Gaiety while it is there, because as things in NYC go, it has had a long, long run, and who knows what factors might contribute to its demise.

At my first show, one of the dancers jacked-off and came for the grand finale. That backroom could hold a tryst with a dancer for $30, but it was filthy and small. Talk about being rushed- all of the dancers had to use the same room so they were constantly knocking on the door to hurry things along.

WOW!!! Nice message VDN. I'm impressed. I knew you could do it, thanks. You have contributed much to our discussion and have given us some ideas that are easy to carry out. But more important, you spoke from your heart and I know it wasn't easy. You've come along way since that first walk to the "Comfort Inn". I know your words will help others who are thinking about a private but unwilling to make the first move.

I was at the Gaiety tonight. The show was great! No problems, and as usual, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Yes VDN, my "private" was also great! We have to keep in touch.

Lucky, The only thing that seems to have changed is the rates. Now we have our "tryst" with a dancer for $200 in a small and sometimes filthy room at the Comfort Inn, Super 8, St. James...etc. And we are still rushed, this time the knock on the door is usually the next client. As for the "grand finale", some still only "jack off" and if you want "cum" that's $50 extra!!! BUT one big difference, back in those days there were NO CELL PHONES...Oh, the good ole days...

But regardless of where and how it takes place, I still love it! :p

Last night, I had a private with a Gaiety dancer that took place in an aparatment that he was renting from another dancer. It was located one block from the Gaiety and the dancer told me the guy was paying $2,000 a month for rent. Hearing that I thought this was going to be very nice. Well, it was very small, it had an all purpose living room, a loft for a bedroom, (climbing that ladder was not my idea of luxury), and the bathroom and kitchen were the same small size. That was it, all for $2,000 a month.

So Lucky, for the price of a blow job and a fuck, I think it's a good deal. Put a post on the Gaiety message board and see what happens!
