Have not been to the Gaiety in a long time but the same thing is happening here in DC. In fact the Washington Balde published an artilce on Friday about the the sudden popularity of the gay strip bars among bachelorett parties. It appears to be driving the regular gay customers away. The women are loud, don't tip well, and insult the gay clients. Needless to say, the bars are worried about this and well they should.

I got so fed up one night I told the bar manager that if they did not do something I would stop patronizing them. Also, let the dancers know that I do not tip any guy who pays attention to the straight chicks parties. I will let it slide on straight women who are visiting with gay friends, usually the fag hags understand the protocols. (It worked, one guy I was tipping regularly asked why I was not paying attention to him any more. I told him he was playing with the stright girls too much and he was not exactly pleased but later told me he had noticed a drop in his tips. He does not pay much attention to them any more.)

I would bet that the management of the Gaiety could not care less if you don't like these straight women taking over the place on weekends. Nor will the mostly straight dancers for that matter. However, given time, if the boxoffice starts to decline and the boys are not making the money, then you might see some rules get posted. But I doubt it.

There must be others that share your concerns. Why not do an informal poll the next time you visit? Then if find a consensus put the word out.

Has anyone else noticed that Friday and Saturday nights are now ladies night at the Gaiety? The ladies are often loud and drunk, but the dancers love to flirt with them from the stage and talk to them and hug them in the lounge. The dancers seem to prefer the girls to the regular clients that might be interested in a private show.

I have never been to the Gaiety but I know that a few years ago that one of the local bars that would feature dancers on a Sunday night had "straight" men dancing. The dancers would invite their girlfriends and their girlfriends friends to the bar when they danced. They would do quick rounds throughout the bar but spend most of their evenings with their girlfriends, friends, etc. (In the meantime they would make 95% of their tips from gay men and these dancers could clear as much as $300 for 2 1/2 hours work)

Some of the patrons ii the bar complained about this and the person managing the dancers asked that they would ask their girlfriends and female friends to stay at home. Some did not and ended up not working for a week or two. When they asked why they were told that since they seemed more interested in spending time with their girlfriend than paying attention to the people who were tipping them that they would now have unlimited time to spend with their girlfriends.

Needless to say, the dancers never asked their girlfriends to come back to the bar again. (The dancers did learn that even when female patrons came in that they would not spend alot of time conversing with them because they could get a much bigger tip from the male patrons than the female ones.)

Interesting....one of the escorts here, suggested that I go to the Gaiety next time I was in NY, if I wanted to interview male escorts for my research. Supposedly some of the guys can be "bribed" to do private shows for women.

I can think of nothing more nauseating than hanging out at a strip club with a bunch of women on "ladies nights" so I think I'll pass. Besides, I like to do my interviewing one-on-one.....

I stopped going to the most popular show times on weekends a couple years ago because of women in the audience. It just grossed me out!

I prefer the smaller crowds of the off-hour shows anyway. It increases the odds of getting a good seat and more personal attention from the entertainment.:9

This issue (Ladies at the Gaiety) is becoming more and more irritable.

Is there nowhere gay men can go to congregate with other men...without bumpimg into these COWS????We were never welcome in straight bars or clubs...I've noticed this trend in Stella's as well...lets hope that now the Rudy G is out we will see some new blood in the line of strip palaces to compete with the Gaiety ...In the meantime I'm forced to attend during the week...:-(

I don't care if there are women there or not. I like women, women can be great to hang out with. I do though mind if the dancers pay an excessive amount of attention to them to assert that they are in fact straight etc.

I'm not naive. I know many dancers are in fact straight, and that is fine. But I don't think it is in their best interest to make a point of it when they have gay men ready and willing to tip them, and generally tip them well.

As for dancers at the Gaiety. Many are gay for pay, that is well known, so I don't think any of them would need to be bribed to spend an hour with a woman, just the ordinary fee will do.

HOW COME?

Ever noticed that places that feature male strippers as their regular feature, have no rules that prevent women from attending. Yet bars, who usually cater to a mixed hetro crowd, will usually exclude men from entering when they are having a special lady's night featuring male strippers. Now is that a double standard or what?
