I have noticed lately that many reviewers answer the question "Where did you meet him?" by saying "His own website". They then go on to give the escort a great review, without ever telling us how to see his website - leaving me hanging out to dry for more information.

Why not show his website address so we can all see more of the guy you're so enthused about? :-)

and WHY do first time reviewers seem to dominate?

they dominate because business is slow in most of the country.

(form your own conclusions there.)

note: it has been AGES since i had a review, but i'm just not good at self-promotion.

Ethan, dear, I realize that time passes at a different rate for the young and pretty but your last review was posted on 5/5/2002.

Not exactly "ages" ago. In fact, not even a month ago. :p

Ah, the great connundrum.

A guy who can barely spell WWW clicks an e-mail link on a website he stumbled across, and has a great time with an escort days or weeks later. At review time, he can't remember the URL.

Or he doesn't understand the difference between a URL and an e-mail address. (We see that a lot.) Or he assumes an AOL screen name is all that's required for an e-mail address. (Yeah, we see that too.)

The review form asks for a LOT of information that may not be fresh in your mind when you're basking in afterglow. <shrug> It's certainly happened to me. When writing a review of a previously-reviewed escort, I've been known to open their previous reviews so I can copy/paste the vital statistics and contact info. Not everyone is tech-savvy enough to do that.

There are also people who find a guy on meetlocalmen.com (to use just one example) and think it's "his website", and have no clue how to provide a link to that guy's page on MLM.

This whole area is the cause of MUCH time spent by HooBoy when he gets a review he wants/needs to check out.

It would be great if everyone dotted the I and crossed the T, but we'll just never see that.

It's a great issue to raise because it may get "lurkers" here to be more careful when submitting reviews, but it'll never be resolved.

Yeah, but, if they are self-reviewers, why aren't they publishing their own web addresses?

well, i hardly expect genius from folks who would try to review themselves. most often, the idiots can't even spell!

Self-reviwers

I believe that many of Deej's comments are closer to the mark, at least for legit reviewers, in answer to the questions raised by this the original post. However, this thread also brought up the interesting question of first time reviewers, which has a lot of issues around it, and for which there could be any number of reasons: from the escort to the location to the way the reviews read.

For example, if you are Talvin Demachio or Michael Brandon with a number of first time reviewers, would the reviews be questioned simply because they are first time reviewers. It is the newer, less known escorts, who have less of a public persona and reputation, who might be inclined to risk that with a self-review. You also should, I think, take a look at the make-up and taste of a number of people who participate regularly on this site and the escorts who have multiple reviews written by people who are not submitting just the one review. For example, the average cover boy age is, I believe, closer to 25 that it is to my own (35).

In addition, there other things to consider, such as does the escort belong to a small community or a large one, if it is a large urban area, that can explain a number of first time reviews; but an escort with a large number of reviews, all of which use identical terminology, from a small urban area, is suspect, as has been addressed elsewhere on the Message Center.

Finally, if one wanted to believe that some escorts were that clever, one could imagine that the inaccuracies and missing information in self-reviews would be an attempt at misdirection. However, based on the way that these guys write their posts, I personally do not believe this is the case.

As has been pointed out in the case of David in Seattle, even if the majority of an escort's positive reviews were not legitimate, the escort ultimately has to perform and do so well in order to maintain and establish himself. In David's particular case, one of his positive reviews was written by Talvin.

I think the comments made by Hoo Boy, Rod Hagen and others, particularly in the thread about fine art reviewers, should be most instructive: these reviews, as with any other kind of reviews, should serve as a guide, a reference point for one's own research. Every opportunity to verify information, orally, via correspondence or in any other fashion, should be undertaken.

From my perspective--very few clients have been writing reviews; that's the prime reason for the dilemma.

I saw a very popular SF escort whose last review is a year old. All of the men he's seen since that time perhaps are oblivious to Hooboy's, or they just have a good fuck and fail (intentionally) to write a review.

I personally do not know what else to say or how to solve this. I remember when I encountered my FIRST great escort in NYC last summer after having seen four prior to that time, I felt compelled to write about him. Ever since that time, if I have had an excellent experience with an escort which is worth writing about, I've done it and have enjoyed it immensely.

Since I have really become an avid HOOBOY junkie-- I view this site daily, I have enjoyed reading the various reviews; I do not read all of them, I have chosen to be discreet based on stats and location.

Well, I do hope that what I wrote lends help to the thread that is posted here!
