Hey guys...

I know that some rent boys like to set up appointments via the net, instead of by telephone. They send info about their hourly rates and availability and confirm meetings all through cyberspace. Isn't there a legal risk here? Doesn't it leave a pretty clear paper trail between client and escort? Just curious.

Thanks.

I'm not too concerned by the "paper trail." After all, if you call an escort and he gets your phone number and name (and address if he is coming to you) then he has created a paper trail manually. While I will exchange emails or instant messages with an escort about general details, I will no longer actually arrange an appointment without speaking with an escort. I've been burned too many times ("escorts" who never showed up, leading me to believe that they probably weren't escorts after all) when I have made all the arrangements via email or IM's. I am particularly concerned about this because I almost always have the escort come to my place, and I certainly don't like the idea of having someone who is just playing around on the 'Net getting my address knowing that I hire escorts.

Privacy

An escort who believes that they are able to maintain complete secrecy about their identity is, unfortuantely sadly mistaken. Likewise, the individual who believes in general that their medical records, financial information, spending habits, sexual preferences, and like-minded subjects, are off limits to all but their most intimate circle, is going to be highly surprised when he or she discovers how easy it is to create any number of "paper trails" on them and their lives.

There was an excellent article in the September 5, 2001 New York Times regarding privacy and the web. In addition, a simple search for privacy on http://www.google.com will generate a wealth of material about how much -- or how little privacy any individual has in modern life.

Love is no substitute for sex.
