That's my opinion exactly. Not only do I hate actual shaving; even more I hate the "shaping" of pubic hair and, even more than that, "trimming," which leaves an unsightly stubble that is very unpleasant to feel. Give me natural hair -- or lack of it -- everywhere. I also don't like all that shaving around the balls and beyond. Escorts are men, not show dogs.

I could not agree with you more. There are so many reasons why it's such a severe turn-off -- including the fact that body shaving is a very womanly activity and body stubble is a very womanly trait; it reveals a vanity and effeteness which exceeds Liberace's; it feels pathetic and miserable to rub against sharp stubble; it detracts from the natural masculinity of the body; it homogenizes everyone and makes them all seem like identical, indistinguishable mannequins, and on and on.

 

And it's so true that you can't get a straight answer from the ones who do it. If you ask, they will be non-committal and/or outright misleading by minimizing the extent to which they do it -- as though they're embarrassed by it (in which case, why do it??).

Well, this is one escort who isn't embarrassed at all by admitting to shaving....

 

I started doing it when I first competed in the Gay Games in swimming in New York City. What a great, liberating feeling that was, and I don't feel makes me any less a man for doing it, or admitting to it!

I agree to a great degree. Because of the image in porn there is this emphasis on being "smooth". Sometimes it gets ridiculous. I personally shave my pits, mainly because I am naturally bushy there and thus for hygiene reasons. But I draw the line at shaving near my asshole.

 

Also, shaving can be addictive. Once you start you have to continue for maintenance and that can take up a lot of time.

 

I also don't like to lock myself in to a "type". Though I prefer a man who is "natural" I don't really care if he shaves or not.

Anyway, I can understand why a shaved chest is a turnoff -- you don't like what you don't like -- but to cite "the fact" of body-shaving's womanliness seems a little out there. First of all, body-shaving is hardly universal among women, and is a fairly recently adapted practice in this country. When the flappers started doing it, didn't people complain that they were being unladylike? And of course women don't typically shave their chests at all (they don't usually need to), making chest-shaving something only men do, making it a variation on masculine behavior, not feminine. If you're going to insist that shaving anything below the neck is feminine, I'd love to know the basis for that arbitrary cutoff point.

 

I can see why you'd say it's a sign of vanity, though, and if you don't like the feel of stubble you don't like it. Good point. I admit though, sometimes I do shave my chest and trim other places...it depends on what I have going on. For instance, if I have a photo shoot for products (ie. underwear, etc.) I have to trim and shave. Plus it shows my definition off more.
