Ron Pearson's obituary was in last week's Bay Area Reporter. He was a very handsome man, who used to sunbathe near me at the park. That beautiful bulge...

His movies were great,(I'll never forget the shower scene) but I also engaged his services once and found him to be a very nice guy.

R.I.P.

According to the obituary, he died 12/10/01 due to complications of advanced HIV disease. Born in Berkeley and raised in Pleasant Hill CA, he spent half of his high school years in Belgium and half in Pleasant Hill. He moved to San Francisco in 1978 (apparently at the age of 18 or 19). After being discovered at an Endup jock-strap contest in 1980, Mr. Pearson went on to star in or produce 14 movies. (Don't you love the BAR obituaries?) An avid traveler, he visited no less than 54 countries on every continent except Antartica. A large, fun-filled (public) celebration is being planned for Saturday 1/5/02. For information about that event, contact Scott Dowdee at (415) 864-7850. Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Pearson's name to Pets, Unltd. (415) 563-6700, your local hospice, or the charity of your choice.

I guess he entered porn at just the wrong time (early 80's). It would have been difficult so involved in that scene at that time not to get HIV. He certainly was a long-term survivor, though (assuming he did contract it in the early 80's when he starred in the porn films, before we knew how HIV was transmitted).

This is so sad, not just that a major heart throb is gone, but on a human scale it brings all of life's many virtures to mind. Ron was a throb to many of us and brought us the most basic of joys. But I am sure he was so much more than simply a good crotch; I am sure he was a full person who loved and shared his life with so many people. 42 is far to early for the good people to die, but like you I have lost many other great friends. It makes growing older harder and harder to accept, especially when one reads of aimless slandering on this and the MS site. :o
