It's not just you. Sites at homestead.com tend to be very slow. It's the plague of the free server.

In this case, the web site is not designed for speed.

E.g., the file MatRWB.jpg is a 1076x1192 image requested

to be scaled by the browser to 384x414. (The file on the

web server should have already been scaled down to the

size it's to be displayed at; sending a bigger file is

only wasteful.) The background image file RW_BConfetti.jpg

is also unusually large (500,000+ bytes). And so on.

 

Not everyone has a fast Internet connection; web sites

should be designed for speed. It's not hard to make

an efficient web site once you know how.

 

But please don't get me wrong: I think it's kind of

Brendan to have designed the web site, even if it

doesn't load lickety-split.

At the time I read this, the fellow had not posted this reply. I agree that the problem is the large images. I went to the trouble to make up a couple of test pages, using the original image from the original site, and comparing it with two other images saved from the at the size specified in the width= and height= directives. The original file (MatOnBeach) was 470625 bytes. One saved at high quality to the same size is 68207; and one saved a moderate quality is only 20352.

I know it may seem confusing, but the truth of the matter is, my actual full first name is Mathew, with only one "t". My Mother thought it more unique because then the shortened version

would be Mat, which is also my full name's initials. The only problem with her idea was the difficulty I encountered from the likes of teachers and others all throughout my schooling. Because of them, I just began using a second "t" when my name was shortened. It is not uncommon for me to vary in my use of both to this day. Anyway, I just wanted to shed some light on your observation.
