To Review OR Not To Review

Just a tidbit from a fellow escort here in sunny California.

 

I guess this will be short and sweet, maybe not. I was introduced to this site by an "agency" here in town and really got into it looking at all the different reviews and trying to learn from past mistakes. I really enjoyed reading what clients liked and disliked about their experiences with "campanions. I thought I was gaining alot of insightful information.

 

WOW this could really boost my business here in town if just one of the "clients" I worked with was actually affiliated with this and submitted a decent review of me, of being a normal decent individual I never thought of asking someone to, I would just wait and hope someone did.

 

Then one day I happened along the link "Message Center".................. Hmmmmmm well after about a week of reading what the "Clients" discuss I HOPE TO GOD my name ever graces the pages of this web site.

 

With words and a vendetta one can completely destroy ones image, self esteem and self worth. I have seen alot in my years of being out as a "Proud" homosexual, but I have to admit even though it has been years, I still feel sickened when we as adults act like we are back in the play ground venting our fears, self hatred and bitterness to people you have not even met. I go from chat room to chat room and see the same thing day after day of someone lashing out for what ever reason and destroying someone else with their word.

 

I really feel this site has become nothing more than a bitch palor just like every other site out there, Ya I know "If you dont like it move on" Oh I will. Just wanted to make a comment as the door closed behind me of what I thought.

As a rather new contributor to this site, it is my experience that this site serves as an excellent watchdog on the unfortunate bad apples of the industry.

 

While I have never used your services, and thus cannot pass judgement upon you as a good or bad escort, I can rely upon the opinions of others here who have exhibited credibility by sharing similar reviews on escorts with whom I have had similar good or bad experiences.

 

Much like in the escorting business, there are good and bad apples who report their experiences on this board. When reading a review that is particularly glowing or particularly treacherous, I make sure to see how many times the reviewer has reviewed and who else he has reviewed that I may be familiar with. An untrue and terrible review will generally be offset by several really good reviews written by people with various writing styles. If one sees that, he can generally assume that the bad review is sour grapes.

 

People who use escorts, whether they be gay or straight, sometimes expose themselves to the worst element of society due to the nature of what the escorting business is. In my opinion, this site serves as a great sounding board where the real trash of the industry (eg. the Anthony Holloway's)are exposed beyond a doubt as being con artists. On the other side of the coin, it allows those of us interested in hiring quality escorts in cities with which we may not be familiar to have objective opinions as to who is good and who is bad.

 

In my experience, I have never heard escorts who I know to be of top quality denigrate this board, its participants, or their opinions. As a "consumer" in the escort industry, I find this board to be an extremely valuable resource. Additionally, I become suspect when an escort doesn't wish to have reviews of his work published here.

 

To categorize those of us who participate in this forum as angry old queens with an axe to grind over every bad escort experience is both incorrect and unfortunate on your part. The particpants in this forum come from all walks of life and are as diverse as our community itself.

You picked an unforunate time to check out the message board. This place has been more than a little mean spirited lately. Fortunately, there are only a small minority of posters who engage in what you describe and the threads that they participate in tend to become very contentious. (I've come to learn who those posters are, and I make it a point NOT to read anything posted by them.) Hopefully, those threads will become few and far between. It's up to everyone -- including YOU -- to make this Board what it can and should be. A place to exchange ideas, to learn something, and maybe even have a good laugh.

First, there a lot of people who only read the reviews and don't come anywhere near the message center. Second, there are a lot of people (including myself) who wouldn't hire anyone who hasn't been reviewed on this site. Third, as I've already said more than one escort has stated that being reviewed on this site has been good for business. Fourth, its up to EVERYONE -- including YOU -- to make this site what it can and should be. Don't be afraid to participate here. Start some more threads. Participate in some of the more friendly debates. Let people know when you agree with them and when you don't.

You *do* have a perspective to communicate. I don't agree with it, but it is certainly your right to communicate it and I am normally willing to at least listen to you. Expressions like "assholes" and "bitter old Queens" (not to mention gratuitous insults aimed at the client community in general) are real turn offs, however, and not just to those you are aiming your barbs at.

Well to restate again, I totally agree with what you wrote. If this site was designed exclusivly to report on decent and unacceptable escorts I applaude it full heartily. However when you get behind the scenes it looses its flavor. Claims of rigging reviews, hidding reviews to make an escort appear in a better light and even "fictatious clients" submitting reviews when they havnt been with the escort. All I am saying is yes people will be people and we cant sort out all the bad but why do we have to go behind the scenes in this forum and slap at each other. Read them. Its there in plain print. I have no issues with the reviews that might come forth from my clients. I just dont want to have to glue myself to this thing and try to combat something that someone said that might even be completely invalid. I guess I am a bit gun shy and really do try to have a good reputation and don't want it ruined.

HooBoy was correct in calling this place a cesspool. Its what it has become. I can't blame Studmuscl for posting this post. One person gets a hair up his ass on this site and all hell breaks loose. I'm actually a fun loving sweet kinda guy. I just don't tolerate bullshit from anyone. And being in this business I have to deal with it on a daily basis. What's that old saying "never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes". I have a funny story to tell you. Not long ago I was at a bar which I frequent. I walked in and a man was standing talking to my fav bartender. When he turned to look he recognized me and said to my fav bartender "that guy is famous ya know" which I overheard and said to the man "don't believe everything you read" He laughed and walked over and introduced himself. We chatted for a while and he was telling me about all the crap he had been reading and how he came to believe it all. Then apoligized and said its obviously not true. As the night went on several of my closest friends came in and as they always do come up to me and give kisses and hugs. The man was so impressed with the type of people I surround myself with and my charming personality that he has become a regular client whom I see often. Just goes to show ya!

Justice is right that there are people who drop in here -- and at other boards, perhaps, under different names -- who enjoy using the anonymity of cyberspace as a screen to hide behind while they lash out at others. Inasmuch as this board is open to anyone, I don't think there's a way to avoid the bad apples.

 

However, as a frequenter of this site for going on two years, I can tell you that I have not found another gay board that attracts the high level of intelligence, education, humor, and good will regularly reached by a number of frequent contributors.

 

Given the fact that the garbage of human sadness seems to be spread everywhere over the internet, maybe the true test of an individual site is not the absence of trash but the presence of treasure.
