RE: All you Canadian travellers

There are many reasons to go to Canada. For one thing, I can stay in a nice hotel in Montreal for four nights for what one night would cost in New York. On a weekend, there are 14 or 15 dancers at the Gaiety; but there are 25-30 at Campus AND 25-30 at Stock (not to mention L'Adonis and Club Taboo). In Montreal you get to sample all of the dancers in back rooms; in New York you get to gamble on the performance of one dancer.

Don't get me wrong, I love New York, and I love to visit, but if your primary activity for a weekend is going to be dancing boys, then Montreal is a much better investment. Montreal is also a fun city with many other things to do, the people are friendly, everything is inexpensive, and the men are beautiful. I love New York, but Montreal is a much better value.

Have readers of this board noticed that NYObserver's reviews of the Gaiety have cooled since he made his first foray to the Great White North over July 4th? There are reasons for that. The Gaeity is less exciting after experiencing Montreal.

Que sera, sera.

ready4boi,

I love this site because it affords me the opportunity to read (and recently write) about my favorite weekend pastime, The Gaiety. But after reading your post I am compelled to respond to the injustice you've done to NYO, Matthew, and dancers in general (however thinly veiled with humor, lol).

NYO does not need me to defend his integrity, but I am with him through most of the "birthing process" of his column, and so must comment. I attend the same weekend shows as NYO. Sometimes we go for dinner (alone or with my friends from the audience). He actively participates in our rehash of the show. He listens to our opinions and offers his own. Then he labors for hours on his day off (he writes the column in addition to a demanding 9-5 job) for what reward? To be slammed by a bunch of (please, no offense) angry old queens (myself included) over a list we don't agree with. NYO does this to educate and entertain, not to curry favor with a particular dancer (probably impossible with a "narcissistic sociopath" anyway). Your characterization of NYO as "Kathy Bates in Misery" is offensive and off-base.

Further, Matthew doesn't deserve your vitriol either. I've plainly (and humorously, I hope) stated the affection I feel for Chris, as have others. But it is clear to me that Matthew clearly enjoys his chosen profession. He is a very entertaining dancer, and a fabulous conversationalist (as attested to by Big Joey). And although Chris (and Kirk, and a very few others) took precedence over Matthew on my list, that doesn't mean that I slight his ability to do a very hard job -- and do it very well. I think he has earned his place of honor on his own merit, not because NYO has given it to him.

Finally, methinks I may have begun to take this all too seriously. I'll return to my normally less-involved status and go back to joking around with Jake. It just bothered me to see a good person, doing something he gets very little out of (I couldn't and wouldn't do it), take it on the head over something this inconsequential. Thanks Guys, and keep writing -- LittleAntNee.

Littleantnee,

My advice is definitely not to take any of this stuff too seriously. Don't forget New York Observer is writing about hustlers. That is what Matthew and Chris are or they wouldn't be dancing at a place like the Gaiety. I have the kind of warped sense of humor that allows me to find comedy in the adulation. Greek comedy to be precise. LOL. I'm not bashing New York Observer personally. I don't even know him. I'm not bashing Matthew either. If he wants to turn down business with a john like me to spend time talking to a twink, more power to him. I just found Chris to be much more professional and secure with a no nonsense attitude, but yes each dancer is different. I did say it was my opinion based on my own individual experience. I found Chris and Matthew very hot, but Chris seemed more my level.

Thanks LittleAntnee - you can joke around with me any time you want. As to the survey, I'm sure NYO reported honestly. I too am amazed at the amount of work he does on that weekly review, and for much too long took him and it for granted. And truth be told, I didn't vote for either Chris or Matthew. Hell, I'm not even sure I'll vote for Gore.

RE: All you Canadian travellers

Hmmm, where to start.

Firstly, I do like Montreal a lot. The number of guys available at any one time is a big plus. One can sample to their hearts content to find that right guy (if that's what you're looking for). At 6 or 10 bucks Canadian for a song, you can get to know a guy you find attractive and then if you're still interestd, you can see if he wants to join you at your hotel. Of course, only about 1/2 do private shows and most won't do them until their shift ends, but the choices are endless. Not only are there the number of dancers Paul mentions, but there are new dancers each night, the dancers can decide that day if they want to work or not.

I don't think that my trips to Montreal have jaded my opinion of the Gaiety, but the lineups prior to this past week were not up to the usual high standards. You may have noticed that I really enjoyed this past weeks show. I will miss it this week, I am on the left coast and might have to drag myself to the infamous Nob Hill Theatre.

As far as criticism of my column/tastes, etc., that's fine, I can take it. We all have different hot buttons and I happen to like Matthew more than Chris (who I like also). I like a lot of the dancers, some of whom I've never gone with. I don't particularly like the accusation that I stuffed the ballot box, I don't get anything at all for my work on this column, nor am I looking for it. It isn't going to benefit me at all to "make" Matthew the winner. In fact, his "winning" would probably make it even more difficult for me to see him. It was a public opinion poll, no advertising was intended. I knew there was a good chance that Matthew would win, he deserves it. Of course dancers react differently to patrons. The primary purpose of my column is to let folks know who I perceive to be a nice guy, worthwhile, etc. I know from experience that not everyone can be happy with a particular dancer. We all have different expectations. I know of one patron who went with a dancer in the top 10 and said it was his worst Gaiety experience. Others have said this guy was one of their best.

One of the most positive things about Hooboy's website is that it allows us to interact and make good/better decisions as to who might be the best dancer/escort for us.
