It seems to me that few escorts visit Chicago. I can understand why you would'nt want to come here in January (Hell, even some of us want to get away then.) but Summer in Chicago is beautiful. There are lots of things to do that won't break the bank, we have great restaurants and we are definitely Gay Friendly. When you aren't otherwise occupied we have lots of beaches with plenty of Beefcake or even Cheesecake if you're so inclined. I'd like some feedback on why we don't get more visits by the working guys.

I remember seeing a video promo for a convention that was scheduled for the Windy City... it featured people sunning themselves and water sports on the lake...

Then at the conclusion said, "See you there! January 25 - January 31".

I don't think so!

We do have the "Polar Bears" who go swimming in Lake Michigan in January but every time I see them on TV my nuts retreat to my navel. I happen to like Winter in Chicago, especially when there is light snow but that's just me.:+

Re: light snow [/font color=blue]

In my younger years I didn't mind the cold or snow... I just hated ice as it made it made for difficult driving conditions. Then I started to hate snow in addition to hating ice... Now I hate the cold in addition to the snow and ice!

As for snow, I always made an exception for Xmas eve saying that some "light snow" was good to enhance the effect of that special day... However, I have since modified my way of thinking... all I want to tolerate now a days is a "heavy frost"... just enough to make the tree tops glisten... and not much more!!! :+

I like visiting Chicago a lot. Plenty to do. Friendly people. Reasonably priced for a big city. But, I am not an escort; merely a lowly client.

I don't like cold, wet weather anymore either. Some times, down south, we get what I call a designer snow. It will stick on the grass and trees but not the streets or sidewalks. Everyone gets something, at least for a little while.

Best regards,

KMEM

I agree, Greg, and that's why I chose Chicago when I had the luxury of choosing where I wanted to live over where I wanted to work.

Although I gotta tell ya, having now lived in a place that doesn't "do" winter, it's tough to convince me back during the cold months. (All 10 of 'em. ;-)) It's just a different mindset. In LA, when the temperature drops below 60 people wear parkas. In Chicago, when the temperature gets above 40 people break out the shorts. LOL

Between the comments from Seaboy, SteveStacks, and Deej I am really looking at making a "change in latitude, change in attitude". First visited Chicago in October 2005, I feel in love with the city and its people. My last visit was in May of this year.

That just made me love the city even more. I just need to come to grips with the thought of leaving my 8 yo job and to try to start a new life at the ripe old age of 50 next year! <eek>

I say since it's just yourself just do it! If I were on my own I'd say screw the job (with 2 weeks notice) and move out there. But I am not alone so I have to be considerate and wait my turn ;(

You are so bad for me...

Based on our emails and chats; I decided to go with that cub in Sf I chatted with you about. It could not have gone better. :)

Lucky for me (or sadly as the case may be) I would at this point making the move to ORD solo. It is a little scary for a late 40's early 50's guy to pick up and find new roots.

Well, hopefully you've had other input as well and haven't made this decision SOLELY on input you've gotten here! ;-)

I'm about a year behind you so I completely understand the trepidations, although I've always been open to relocations. That's how I've come to know the joys of living in DC, NYC, Chicago, and now LA. I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had in either place for all the tea in china.

Auntie Mame said "life is a banquet and some poor bastards are starving to death".

Having said that, you (and I) are at an age where finding employment may be an issue. Everyone wants to hire the young kids who work cheap, and only hire the seasoned practitioner when there's a mess to be cleaned up. Make sure you've got your ducks in a row there, and then fold your tent and go.

You'll never regret having lived in Chicago. You may regret having been unemployed there, though. :(

I understand this totally. I grew up in the northern part of Texas. Winter was my least favorite time of the year. Living in Madison, Wi from the age of 36 to 40 confirmed this dislike even more. When people from Wisconsin found out I was from Texas, they would tell me how they could never live there because of the heat. Then I would come back home for a visit and meet Wisconsin expatriates who would tell me that they could never move back because of the cold. My surmise from all of that was that (and if there are any Wisconsites out there please forgive me in advance) that all the smart people from Wisconsin had moved to Texas :D :D :D (I'm sorry--just kidding)

With all that being said, I love Chicago. For one thing it's easier to get to than either of the coasts if I want to go somewhere that has a lot of theatre--also I love natual history museums, the Navy Pier, etc. So I love Chicago so much that I spent my birthday weekend there last year. I saw Wicked, Putnam County Spelling Bee, and X-men United--or whatever the last movie was--I think I also saw something else but Alzheimer's is preventing me from remembering.

So I love Chicago--would I live there--not a chance--just like the coasts--it's too expensive (compared to Texas) if you want to live downtown around the fun areas--and the salaries don't increase to make up for the cost of living and playing--would I go there for a vacation--you betcha, anytime.

Deej,

I hate to correct you but I think the exact quote from Auntie Mame is: "Life is a banquuet and MOST poor bastards are starving to death." I think there is somewhat of a difference in meaning.

Yup, RR, thanks for the correction. I didn't feel like looking up the exact quote.

And if I *had* gone to look something up, it probably would have come from Mama Rose. ;-) Some people can be content, playing bingo, and paying rent.... That's living for some people... but some people ain't me. :+

(Once again, I didn't look it up and it's considerably paraphrased.)

Having once lived in Chicago and retaining a great affection for the place, the reactions border on the comic, even though I know some are exaggerated for effect.

LA is dreary and depressing for much of the year. I settled an estate several years ago and the Winter/early Spring reminded me of Chicago (or my native Cleveland) w/o snow--cold enough to need the heat on and over clothes and gray, smoggy skies. Plus, LA summers can be as awful as any. DC (a popular escort destination) has milder winters than Chicago, but more deadly summers. I would have thought the reason for fewer escort trips, might be money and prevailing escort rates--that was one excuse for not coming to Atlanta (although it may have been a cover for knowing that Atlanta is an overrated place and a joke for city its size; I used to live there and can't imagine why anyone who wasn't born there would stay).

What is interesting is that escorts increasingly visit places like Cleveland, Pittsburgh that are sizable but not gay havens, and even third string places like Grand Rapids, but they don't turn up in Chicago that often. There's probably too much free sex at IML for it to be viable then , but much of the year Chicago should be a good place to be and, if business is slow, there's plenty to do.

  • 1 month later...

I'll be coming there... well... to Milwaukee and Chicago between October 3rd and the 7th. I have to marry off my niece but available anytime around that. Need advance notice though so I can plan my time accordingly.

I'ts also a given that I will be there the last week in May thru June 6th or so on an annual basis. Drop an email my way! Talk and get to know one another... exchange desires and fantasies... play them out for real when I get there! happy to answer any question you might have!
