I agree... these are the most central areas, so it's easy for people to get to you and see you, and easy for you to get to other parts of the city. If you're close to Market Street you can take the train up to the Castro easily.

Avoid Fisherman's Wharf... it's scenic but way on the edge of the city, far from anything else.

This has been discussed before, both from the vantage point of escorts visiting and of clients/tourist wanting to be well situated. As DickHo stated, the best to areas are Union Square and the Convention Center area South of Market adjacent to Union Square, but you can do a simple search in the LOUNGE forum for "San Francisco" and find the threads about hotels.

I have yet to pay more the $75 a night for a four star hotel on Priceline, but that is not always a sure thing. The advantage of these hotels over a Best Western has been the high speed internet access, either included at no charge or for a small daily charge of about $9.95 to $12.95. The hotels also were comfortable, clients of mine were more comfortable with the location (although their is really nothing wrong safety wise with the South of Market area by Civic Center). They often included decent to good gyms, which is not something you find at smaller chains like Travel Lodge, Best Westerns, etc. Any hotel on or near the Market Street corridor will be convenient for both you and clients since they are all near both the BART and SF Muni Metro, which runs 24 hours (albeit slow and late after midnight) on this street.

You do NOT want to stay at a Castro area hotel. They are few, over priced, unappealing and not worth the proximity given that public transit is extremely good and cabs are reasonable and easy to find.

For what it's worth, the Best Western Americania at the link I posted has free high-speed internet but only in "deluxe" rooms. They do however have an "internet lounge" on the lobby level, a cozy space with sofas and a fireplace, with free wireless access and a couple of public PC's (which always seem to be in use by children).

The hotel is definitely NOT four-star, but it's head and shoulders above what's available in the Castro. (Beck's and the Travellodge are pretty much it, right Franco? Nate?)

I'm booked there for Folsom Street Fair weekend because all I really want is a clean/quiet place to sleep. Or whatever else might happen in that room. }(

Someone looking for a touch of luxury should look elsewhere.

The "Civic Center" Holiday Inn on 8th street is pretty reasonably priced

(especially if you go for one of their non-refundable pay-in-advance rates)

and is very convenient for both SOMA (including the Folsom Street Fair)

and transportation.

With all due respect to the previous posts let me add another light in this thread. I stayed once at the Diva Hotel and twice at the Clift (an Ian Schrager's hotel) both on Geary street one block off Union Square.

Register another vote for Union Sq and SoMa. Great location, easy transportation, good for both escort and client.

As nate said, avoid Fisherman's Wharf: too far away from everything except good eating. I'd also suggest avoiding the Embarcadero area: somewhat out of the way and not much at night.

Other than some guest houses/B&B's, you're right Beck's and Travellodge are pretty much it for the Castro. Beck's is at "ground zero" for the Castro, so could be fun if you've never visited before, but I don't know what it's like to spend a whole night there (a few hours, that's another matter!

}( ). It's quite a scene, and probably not ideal for entertaining clients.

It's been a few years since I've been there but I liked the Juliana on Bush Street. It's a couple of blocks from the Nob Hill Cinemas and around the corner from China town. It's an old hotel that has been remodeled and I prefer that type to the ultramodern ones. Also, in the evenings, the lobby puts out wine, etc. for the patrons to get together. Altogether a friendly place. I also dealt directly with them and, prehaps because I was going there quite often, I got an excellent rate and reservations when rooms were scarce.

Where to stay... Hmmmm~

It may be a little cramped, but i've always preffered the third stall downstairs at the Nob Hill Arcade. It's warm, cozy and the fringe benefits are spectactular. The shower is right upstairs and perfect for those who are exhibitionists. While they might not give out complementary shampoo, their lube selection is stellar.

Added, it's so clean that the air almost always smells of bleach. WOW! How's that for tidy? ;)

Seriously though, i've always enjoyed The Argent near the SanFran MoMa. Make sure you pocket out some time and stop into Bang & Olufsen's store in Union Square. Amazing gadgetry and killer style... With a price tag to match. ARGH. Damn inflation.

Enjoy such an awesome city. Nothing else like it.

Warmest Always,

Benjamin Nicholas
