Pesky Picture Pirates

What do you guys do when you find your picture used by someone else in a profile on an internet site. For the second time this week TJ has had to deal with someone using a picture of him on profiles on men4sexnow.com and m4m4sex.com. Now I'm wondering how much this happens to other people and how you deal with it. The first person immediately removed the picture when he was challenged but the second hasn't answered repeated requests in the last couple of days. Besides being flattered that someone feels they should misrepresent their own ass as being TJ's any advice on preventing/rectifying this? How often does this happen. It seems odd that we didn't see it in the last 3 years and now twice in a week.

If I was looking to attract big-dicked tops, I'd be tempted to use a picture of TJ's ass too.

 

This sort of misrepresentation is actually part of the reason this site exists. Guys do it a LOT.

 

Talvin Demachio has sent out notes to his mailing list several times about fakes using his pics, and asking everyone to slam the imposter with emails. (Which of course everyone does, until the fake's inbox is full.)

 

Unfortunately, the only way you can really prevent it is not to let the pictures get out there. <shrug> Once the picture is out there, it's out there permanently. Beyond disfiguring watermarks (which can be photoshopped out if someone is REALLY determined) there's just not much you can do other than contacting the offender and, in some cases, posting the info on discussion boards.

Not a day goes by that I am not asked by a former escort to please take his information down off my site because someone did a search for something as insignificant as a cell phone number.

 

Deej can probably explain it better than I, but even though I remove all traces of you -- your pictures, your information, your phone numbers and everything you created about yourself can most likely be found FOREVER.

 

And there is nothing I can do about it.

 

My advice, if you do not want your past to come back to haunt you, think about your actions today.

Watermarks

 

Actually, in spite of Deej's comments, I do believe that watermarks and text identifications can be of use in preventing this. This is also one reason why I do not, for example, have any hard on shots anywhere on the web. I send them quite readily to prospective clients once contact has been made, but they cannot otherwise been found on the web to my knowledge. All those photographs are marked in such a way that if someone cropped my name off, they might as well just send someone a picture of pubic hair or an upper thigh.

 

Over the last year, I have gotten more relaxed about this, so now someone could crop out my name and still end up with a useable ass shot or similar, but I frankly decided that if someone wanted to use a cropped image of me, it was going to happen and there was nothing I could do about it.

RE: Watermarks

 

Franco, cropping isn't so much the issue as Photoshop.

 

In the hands of a capable user, ANY image can have a watermark removed (as in filled in) so that at casual view you'd never know it was there and the rest of the image remains unchanged. That's what brought about the proliferation of "celebrity nudes" that float around the net.

 

No watermarking is 100% safe. It'll deter the lazy picture pirates (or not ... look at what gets posted here!), but that's about it.

Although I am a regular visitor to HooBoy and have contributed once, I am ashamed to admit that this is the first time I've discovered how to use the Message Center. If it hadn't gone down and Daddy et al hadn't worked so hard to fix it, I might never have seen it. Lemonade from Lemons?

 

Anyway, I wanted to respond to this post because I have some experience with it from a different perspective. As someone who is responsible for sites (not unlike this one but not nearly as good), you should always contact the site and tell THEM to remove the picture. They don't want trouble. They will do so immediately.

 

Don't even bother with the a-hole who's lifted your pic. When you wrestle with pigs, you both get dirty and the pig likes it. And if you're both pigs, well...

 

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. BTW, there is someone in Philadelphia on m4m4sex.com who's lifted a picture of the Atlanta escort who is dressed in the Santa hat. Sorry, I can't remember either one.

 

Since this is my first post, I apologize for its length. I'll try to be more succinct in the future.
