As Any Escort Here Been Arrested for Prostituion?

I saw another thread in The Lounge called "Legal Figleaf" on a disclaimer on an escort's website and it got me to wondering if anyone here might have actually been arrested.

 

I am wondering about *escorts* and not street hustlers as I think their working conditions might reduce the chance of arrest.

 

Of course, escorts might not want to answer this becaouse it might worry clients.

 

So do you know of another escort who has been? How worried about this are you yourself?

You might want to research the archives. We had a long dissertation a few months ago about an escort in Columbus and his trials and tribulations. I think it was Jeff but I can't really remember.

I was arrested for "offering massage without a license",(not for prostitution), a 4th degree misdemeanor. I pled No Contest and paid a $75 fine and $55 in court costs. I do know 3 escorts who were arrested for prostitution.

 

It's always a concern, but it's not something about which I "worry".

I know by reputation, second-hand information or because it has been recounted to me, either directly or indirectly, of several adult film actors and escorts who have been arrested on various "prostitution" charges in Southern California. None of these were within the last eighteen months and to my knowledge, it has not otherwise occurred.

 

The Los Angeles Police Department has both a reputation and history for arresting both known escorts and your "ordinary, run of the mill" homosexual for victimless crimes. Due to frequent complaints of civil liberties violations and targeted harassment, this has improved. However, this does not mean it is not unlikely or inprobable.

 

The other consideration which anyone needs to take into account, as I pointed out in the Legal Figleaf thread, is that jurisdictions vary both as to laws on their books and the enforcement of same by peace officers, as well as the prosecution of same by the appropriate authorities and the resources which local governments might provide for these activities. In San Francisco, West Hollywood and a few other areas, the possibility of any problem is remotely small.

 

Finally, escorting is perfectly legal. That is why the yellow page directory listing of most urban areas are filled, as are various newspapers, both metropolitan and alternative, with escorts advertisements.

 

However, and as everyone's good friend and a popular member of this community so enjoys pointing out, inprescisely, "escorting is illegal."

I believe I read some of this. What I am interested in is more of how wide-spread a problem (though I don't think that is the right word) it might be.

While you are looking in the archives, you might also look for the story of my arrest. It's probably back in there in three or four places. I am now so tired of that story that I no longer tell it. I mention it here in the interests of honesty only.
