I always wonder how escorts set their fees over their career. How do you figure out what to charge for the basic one-hour appointment when you first start out out and at waht points(s) do you figure it is time to raise you fee? It would be interesting to hear about how your own fees have changed over time.

When I first started escorting for an agency in '91, they charged $100 and it was a 70/30 split. When I started working for myself the following year, I charged $80 incall and $100 outcall. Around '95, on the advice of an escort/friend, I bumped my rates up to $100 in/$120 out and finally last year I raised them to $120 in/$140 out.

I usually see what other escorts in my area are charging. Now, it seems I'm charging less than most. My rates for my very regular clients have not increased, unless they saw my new rates advertised and took it upon themselves to pay me my new rates.

There's a tendency to want to start cheap at the beginning, based on other rates in the area, until you've got yourself established. But then it also becomes a supply and demand equation: I've moved my rate around from time to time based on the amount of business I'm receiving or not receiving, and experimented with different weekday and weekend rates. I've found a $100/hour rate attracts a lot of business (more business than I can handle, actually), whereas business falls off if the rate goes beyond $125 or $150, so I keep the rate in a range that brings the amount of business I'm looking for. I always give repeat clients the lowest rate. Maybe that's too much of an Econ 101 approach, but it seems to work for me!

I charge what I feel is the market rate. Here in L.A, that's $200/hour. When I first started I charged $100 for incalls and a minimum $120 for outcalls, but that was the market rate. Then, a couple of years ago I wnet up to $150 and a couple of friends of mine said to go up to $200 which I thought was more like porn star rate. Turns out that porn star rate here in town is $250.

Adult film actor rates in Los Angeles (Michael Brandon, Ted Matthews, et. al) tend to hover around $300, with certain people (Tom Chase when he escorted here) being higher - $500.

I also based my rates when I started low but adjusted them upward on the same principles as others here. I offer frequency discounts to my regulars and I also offer multiple hour hire discounts.

Another thing I have done is considered the market of where I travel (as well as my costs) in setting my rates in that market. Thus, in Portland, while any number of escorts were advertising themselves at similar rates as my own, the clients were indicating that they were paying much lower rates, so I established a lower "day" rate in Portland to satisfy this need.

I started off with what I thought was the market rate and then adjusted my rate to be more in line with the amount of escorting that I wanted to do. When I first started, I was turning down a lot of requests becuase I was too busy (escorting is not all that I do). As I started to raise the rates, the number of requests started to drop. Right now I have a nice balance. And I keep the same rates no matter what city I am in.
