I drove SM Boulevard recently for old time sakes.  It sure has changed.  There were a few crossdressers near Western.   Finally I found a young skinny Mexican near Las Palmas.  Of course in the old days that was a mixed crowd of boys and girls.  Many were very very young.

I invited him into my warm car so he could get out of the cold for awhile.  It turns out he is from Guatamala and has only been here a short time.  He's trying to make ends meet.  I found a relatively quiet parking space near a large apartment that is under construction.  I'd already given him a hundred to welcome him to our country.

The summer of my sophomore year I drove out to LA with two College friends who had graduated and were moving back West. One of them was gay and he drove me along the Boulevard one night while showing me around town. I remember thinking these guys are my own age but some of them are so hot I wouldn't mind paying ( if I would have been able to afford it ..which I couldn't in those days ) 😉

Completely surprised to hear this.  Had absolutely no idea there were ANY working men on the streets anymore.  Good for you.

The absolute hay (HEY!) day of LA street hiring was on Selma Avenue in the 70s.  The center of that universe was the Gold Cup coffeeshop.  It was wonderful when John Water's mentioned the street, the action, the coffeeshop by name recently on...I think it was on Bill Maher, maybe elsewhere.  Good for him.

I love that movie.  I HAVE that movie.  The guy with the Partridge Family haircut really seems to have a smart aleck attitude, only lightly concealed  :-)

My understanding from the little bit they talked about it on the Ask Any Buddy podcast was that they were mostly hustlers from Selma/Gold Cup.

Considering that Rod introduced information about Selma Avenue and the Gold Cup, let us give credit to the man who had a small stake in the Gold Cup and the will power and lack of fear of the FBI and the postal authorities to mail naked photos of men to buyers who lived in various parts of the world.   

Bob Mizer was a pioneer in his day by bringing gay pornography to a point of large volume.  He also had a magazine with gay pornography which caused him a lot of hassle with the police and various agencies.  

We all owe at least a little gratitude to Bob Mizer through his perseverance that would not stop despite being jailed once and prosecuted twice.
