KeepItReal
My Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check expires in December 2022. Curious if anybody has renewed theirs the past few months and can give me an idea of 1) the wait time? 2) the experience - do I still have to do an in person visit at a CBP office or is it virtual now? Nothing has really changed since I got it initially (same passport, same drivers license, same home address etc) I am in New York City if that helps. Thanks! + Pensant
I renewed mine in early January. The first step is to fill in and update the online questionnaire and then you’ll need to meet with a CBP officer for a short interview. I got my new card within a week. I had my original 2017 and follow-up interview in Blaine, WA, near the border. Amex Platinum reimburses the fee. + FrankR, + JoeMendoza and KeepItReal
BeamerBikes
I recently renewed mine. Only took a few weeks. It's not apples to apples though. As I started to reply, I remembered I renewed GOES under Nexus. So I renewed Nexus (Canadian Fast Pass for US Citizens) and that gets me backdoor access to Global Entry and TSA Precheck. I filled out the online form, paid the fee, and in 2 to 3 weeks, I got confirmed and the card came in the mail about 3 weeks to a month after the process started. I did NOT need to meet with a CBP officer. I did do some significant international travel in the previous period. Europe abunch of times, a tour of AsiaPac, acouple Canada crossings, and some Latam trips too. So I dunno if the frequent international traveled played into my favor for not needing another interview. I first got Nexus in the early 2010s, out of Chicago for US CBP, Canada interview was out of Detroit. This was my 2nd renewal I think. + Lucky
I recently renewed mine and did not have to attend any interview of any kind. I simply received an updated card in the mail. All of my application was online. (They said I was not only a trusted traveler, but a lucky one.) coriolis888
There is no way to know how long it will take to renew Global Entry. My renewal took several months but I did not have to have an interview. There also is no way to know whether an in-person interview will be required. There is no pattern for renewals. Even spouses who always travel together internationally will experience one spouse getting quickly renewed while the other spouse must wait months for renewal. If anyone has a lot of time to spend, the link below will take you to a travel forum that discusses this very subject. As you will see from the countless responses, some people have waited more than six months for renewal while some get renewed in just a few days. Guest MikeThomas
Mine came up for renewal just before the pandemic. Filled out the renewal online. Delayed for almost two years. Finally got an appointment at ORD. Don’t know why they wanted to see me in person. Perhaps because I have 3 passports.

December 2022 or January 2023 🤷🏻♂️ Have you looked into the feature of Global Entry called "Interview on Arrival" To use this feature you have to be arriving in the U.S. from an international trip. Instead of going through regular immigration, there is a special line for this service. If you decide to try it, check the local rules to be sure it is still available. Or, you can use a link I posted back in February that has a lot of information about Global Entry. + nycman
I accidentally let mine expire. Because it had expired, they made me come in for an “interview" Although the “interview" lasted less than 5 seconds, it was a pain in the ass to travel out to JFK. Idiotic government bureaucracy at it’s best. + Lucky

handiacefailure
Seems to a total YMMV situation On the flyertalk thread some people are saying they waited over eight months and others are saying they got approved in two days while their spouse or kids had to wait months applying for renewal the same day. I applied for my renewal in late March and didn't received the notice that I had been approved for another five years without needing an interview in late July and had my card a week later. I think they are extending GE by 18 or 24 months still past the expiration date as long as you apply in time. I live near the canadian border and it has saved me so much time coming back, I really need to get Nexus + BenjaminNicholas

A friend of mine just got a reply about his renewal (seven weeks) and now can't seem to find any date for the interview. No spots open anywhere in Texas except for CBP at Laredo. Very odd. I suggested to him to renew on his next international trip. If you have your passport, GE card and proof of residency, you can just walk-in while transiting at some airports. Interviewing on arrival is his best bet if he has an international trip coming up if there are no slots available at his home airport. Someone in my office is always required to interview on his renewal (he has a disorderly conduct from his college ays and he thinks that why and isn't complaining since a lot of times any criminal record disqualifies you). I'm glad my renewal was approved with no interview. If his home airport has a interview facility, he can always try doing a walk in interview before a domestic flight. If they have a last minute cancel or are running ahead of schedule a lot of times they'll take a walk in. I thought they were also doing zoom interviews for renewals but may have stopped those. coriolis888
In connection with Global Entry renewals and Global Entry itself, I have had two renewals after my initial approval. Only my initial GE required an in-person interview. What motivated this response is to comment about the change to Global Entry after you return to the U.S. from an international trip. Until recently, those with GE were accustomed to walking to the GE Kiosks and placing an open passport on the screen and answering some basic questions and posing for a photo. However, my last time returning (a month ago) things were different. All one now needs to do is walk up to the GE kiosk and look into the screen and follow the instructions that tell you to align your face within a certain screen. There were no questions to answer and no passport to show. Within seconds, the GE kiosk knew who I am and produced a receipt so that I could hand it to the customs officer when I left the immigration area. Incredible how technology has advanced and keeps advancing. Global Entry now has facial recognition, at least they do in LAX and IAH and likely most large airports that accept GE. Those waiting for GE renewal now have an easier entry process.
coriolis888
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection released an article last month advising about the new process of entering the U.S. with facial recognition. It explains that the passport is not checked et cetera. The changes are only for travelers with Global Entry (or equivalent). However, the article says the new facial recognition system is only at Chicago (ORD) Chicago's smaller airport Midway (MDY). Usually, one can depend on releases that come from the U.S. government. However, the article has an error in saying that the new GE facial recognition is only in Chicago. I personally experienced the new feature last month in LAX and in Houston (IAH). Here is a link to the article that will be interesting to those who use or will be using GE upon renewal. The article explains how easy the process of returning to the U.S. has become, immigration wise. https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/local-media-release/ord-and-mdw-encourages-travelers-use-facial-recognition
KeepItReal
Reporting back: I got a website notice on Friday that my renewal has been approved and my new Global Entry ID card is in the mail. No request for an interview or additional documentation. Took them a while, but I will have my new ID card before the old one expires at year end. All good! 🙂
