This Australian soap opera has been criticized for not having any gay characters. That's about to change. A well established couple John and Marilyn not too long ago took in a foster child Ty. For awhile he was seeing a girl but in the recent episode he tried to kiss his best mate Ryder who is straight.

It's well known for not featuring many Asians or Aboriginals either. For all its sunny beaches I've always found the casting of Home and Away quite bland and depressing.
